The Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF) is the nation’s only pan-Asian family and children’s advocacy organization. CACF aims to improve the health and well-being of Asian Pacific American children in New York City. Founded in 1986, CACF advocates for culturally competent, linguistically appropriate, and immigrant accessible services for children and families of East Asian, South Asian, Southeast Asian, and Pacific Islander backgrounds. 

CACF is seeking a full-time Program Coordinator to facilitate the Asian American Student Advocacy Project (ASAP). ASAP educates, trains, and equips its Youth Leaders to be self-aware and informed advocates for their communities. ASAP seeks to build a community of APA youth whose voices are heard and incorporated, and with the collective power to create positive change, particularly in education. ASAP recruits APA youth across New York City between the ages of 13-24 years old.


Job Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate leadership and advocacy training program for a diverse group of Asian Pacific American high school students. 
  2. Develop curriculum and facilitate sessions during the school-year program and summer institute. Coordinate recruitment and retention of students. 
  3. Train youth leaders to research student needs, develop policy recommendations, mobilize peers for ASAP-led campaigns, and meet with elected and appointed officials as part of ASAP’s advocacy efforts. 
  4. Support students on personal well-being and growth as well as academic and leadership endeavors in a one-to-one capacity as well as coordinator-group capacity.
  5. Communicate with parents about program goals and progress. 
  6. Evaluate and refine ASAP.
  7. Develop strategy for better engagement of ASAP alumni in ASAP and CACF. Keep updated alum contact list. Identify needs and interests of alum.
  8. Support policy advocacy efforts of CACF and coordinate ASAP youth to participate in policy advocacy campaigns and efforts collaboratively identified by ASAP youth and staff.
  9. Develop partnerships with other youth advocacy groups, Asian Pacific American community organizations and leaders, immigrant advocates, and children’s agencies as needed.

The Ideal Candidate will have...

  1. Experience with working with youth on an individual and group level.
  2. Experience with campaign development/advocacy.
  3. Experience with program development, management, and evaluation.
  4. Understanding of Asian Pacific American issues within broader context of issues among marginalized communities.
  5. Understanding of APA identity through an intersectional lens.
  6. Understanding of youth development.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  8. Bonus: Proficiency in a language other than English.
  9. Bonus: Understanding of or experience with New York City’s public education system.
  10. Bonus: Understanding of how to use social media, especially for advocacy purposes.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
