    Job Summary 

    Seeking an After-school Instructor to teach STEM, Reading, or Media Arts to elementary-age school children Monday-Friday from 3:30-5:30. Programming is offered at four schools, all of which are located in Wards 7 & 8 and typical class size is 5-10 children. An ideal candidate will provide learning opportunities across varying learning style and ability needs of students.

    Main Job Duties and Responsibilities 

    • Develop students’ engagement and understanding of the subject-matter through projects, teamwork, and individual assignments. 
    • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students the opportunity to observe, question, and investigate. 
    • Provide direct feedback and encouragement to students. 
    • Prepare materials and classroom for class activities. 
    • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
    • Develop meaningful relationships with parents, teachers, and school staff.
    • Perform data entry to track attendance, student progression, and other pertinent information.
    • Duties as assigned by the supervisor

    Qualifications 

    • A minimum of 2 years working with elementary and middle school students.
    • Excellent written and verbal English skills. 
    • Must demonstrate a high level of integrity and self-motivation. 
    • Must think creatively and problem solve effectively. 
    • Must pass a background check. 

    Physical Requirements 

    • Must be able to see details at close range (use of a computer). 
    • Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 30 lbs. 

    Time Commitment/Pay 

    The instructor works 10-15 hours a week, including teaching time, lesson planning, data entry, and meetings. The hourly rate is $21.00 - $23.00 an hour.
