OVERVIEW: 

The Legal Services Corporation seeks recent law school graduates for its Graduate Law Fellowship. The Fellowship is a wonderful opportunity for recent graduates who are excited to impact social justice change and gain in-house counsel experience at a national non-profit organization. As the nation’s largest funder of civil legal aid, LSC is committed to equal access to justice. ABOUT LSC:  

Established by Congress in 1974, the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) is the country’s single largest funder of civil legal aid for low-income Americans. LSC currently funds 133 independent, non-profit legal aid organizations with more than 800 offices throughout the nation. LSC’s mission is to promote equal access to justice and provide grants for high-quality civil legal assistance.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Perform legal research and writing on myriad topics such as statutory and regulatory interpretation concerning congressional appropriations, federal grants, and oversight of federally funded legal services; legal issues facing nonprofit corporations; and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Sunshine Act matters. 
  2. Assist with rulemaking drafting and activities.  
  3. Support our procurement process by drafting and reviewing Requests for Proposals and contracts. 
  4. Assist with the resolution of matters involving intellectual property, data sharing, labor and employment, ethics compliance and general business operations. 
  5. Participate on a variety of Access to Justice projects and other special assignments generated by LSC’s Board of Directors, such as task forces and forums. 
  6. Ensure that internal systems are implemented, and appropriate guidance followed. 
  7. Draft and revise internal policies and procedures. 
  8. Other related duties as assigned. 

 

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: 

General: 

Prior work experience demonstrating strong customer service, work ethic, and professionalism skills; experience in and commitment to mission-based work; professional curiosity in multiple legal practice areas; Versatility and an eagerness to support all aspects of LSC business operations, including project management and communications; excellent legal research and writing skills; strong commitment to LSC’s mission of providing legal services to low-income persons; enthusiasm for public interest, government affairs, and regulatory or administrative law; able to take initiative, problem solve, and work independently; an ability to work as a part of a team; able to work collaboratively with external stakeholders and subject matter experts; willingness to manage and prioritize across tasks and adapt quickly to changing work needs; and pay close attention to detail. 

 

Technical: 

A law degree from an accredited law school within the last two years or by June 2021, with a strong academic record. A high degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required, particularly Word.  

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS: 

Salary is based on years of experience post-law school graduation: 

 

Recent graduate: $62,000 

1 year of experience: $65,043 

2 years of experience: $67,500
