GreenWave seeks a reliable, skilled, self-directed and team-oriented individual to fulfill our Hatchery Manager position. Reporting to the Programs Manager and Deputy Director, the Hatchery Manager will 1) oversee seasonal facility operations in our kelp hatchery 2) coordinate daily and weekly maintenance tasks and 3) collaborate closely with the Science Lead and Hatchery Technician to execute these tasks, among other critical functions. This is a hands-on, temporary full-time position (from June 2018 through mid-January 2019) in New Haven, CT.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Execute GreenWave hatchery protocols and procedures, including cleaning and fixing aquarium tanks, sanitizing hatchery equipment, and prepping kelp spools for seeding and outplanting
  • Oversee hatchery facilities operations and maintenance
  • Steward kelp cultures under the direction of the Science Lead
  • Lead a part-time Hatchery Technician to assist with hatchery upkeep
  • Document work in a daily log book and spreadsheets
  • Coordinate with the Executive Assistant and Deputy Director to purchase supplies
  • Collaborate with Science Lead to develop outplanting and kelp seed transport schedule
  • Decommission hatchery at the end of the growing season

Desired Skills and Requirements:

  • Attention to detail while not losing sight of the big picture
  • Great problem solving skills and ability to troubleshoot and rapidly respond to maintenance issues as they arise
  • Familiarity and comfort with light construction, PVC plumbing, and use of power tools
  • Experience working in a hatchery or lab a plus
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Occasional travel required
  • Comfort driving a box truck
  • Driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends, as needed
