Results for America (RFA) is seeking an experienced public policy and program management professional, who works well in a team environment, to work alongside the Executive Director overseeing operations and staff for a major initiative funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies: What Works Cities (WWC). Strong leadership, project management and interpersonal skills are essential, and attention to detail is paramount. This person will work closely with all members of our team on their work as well with senior RFA leadership on the direction of the initiative.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Operational Director

  • Works closely with the RFA Chief Financial and Strategy Officer on the budget and financial health of the initiative
  • Works alongside the Executive Director to implement and sustain a set of practices to ensure the ED has the appropriate work and workload. Ensures her time is well spent

Strategic Manager and Executer

  • Works with the Executive Director and the What Works Cities leadership team on the strategic plans and vision for the WWC initiative
  • Ensures a productive and regular relationship between RFA senior leadership and WWC senior staff
  • Works with WWC staff and the WWC Associate Director of Impact and Evaluation to ensure that the development of an impact evaluation framework and measurements of the effectiveness of the program are aligned with the programs strategic vision and reported on regularly to all stakeholders
  • Develops and implements a strategy to engage WWC partners

Chief of Staff

  • Manages all content for WWC Staff meetings, retreats and Leadership Team meetings
  • Oversight of staff development and resources to encourage advancement
  • Develops and maintains the WWC organizational chart and recruitment strategies
  • Creates and directs all hiring processes for WWC in collaboration with RFA operational leads
  • Management of small operational staff and any interns

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required, a Master’s degree is preferred
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of work experience, more experience preferred
  • Experience serving in chief operations or management roles for high performing teams
  • Knowledge and/or strong interest efforts to improve the effectiveness of city government through the use of data and evidence and other innovative practices
  • Outstanding organizational skills including strong capacity to manage and coordinate simultaneous projects and successfully prioritize among multiple tasks within a fast-paced initiative
  • Excellent written and analytical skills
  • Enthusiasm for working in a startup environment, transitioning to full operative program as well as building new programs and continuously improving
  • Commitment to a collegial, kind workplace
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organization
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a fast paced, results-oriented workplace
  • High proficiency in project management software, Microsoft Suite, Google systems
