Bridges Baltimore Overview

Bridges Baltimore is committed to the long-term success of Baltimore City youth and to providing life-changing opportunities to independent school students. Our team of 14 serves approximately 500 people per year - 300 Baltimore City youth ages 9-23 and 200 independent school students. Our two sites, Bridges at St. Paul’s Schools (est. 1993) & Bridges at Gilman School (est. 2014), operate on a budget of $1.4mm. Watch a short Bridges video HERE.

Position Description

The 2021 Bridges Summer Institute will either be an in-person or distance-learning summer program for students in rising grades 4-9. The program is 5 weeks long, from June 28 to July 30, 2021. Below are overviews of both models. 

• In-Person: Teachers will teach their specific subject area to one grade of students four days a week and will have one day per week, away from the classroom to help supervise and chaperone field trips to the greater Baltimore area. Any in-person classes or other programming will follow state, local, and national COVID safety guidelines.
• Distance-Learning: The distance-learning model of the Summer Institute pairs user-friendly learning technology with off-screen, hands-on learning experiences to prepare students for the school year & enrich their summer. Teachers will work with one grade of students to teach their subject area 4 days a week & have one day per week for planning & trainings.

Ideal Candidates

• Love teaching and students
• Have experience working with students from Baltimore City
• Want to have a challenging and fun, rewarding teaching experience this summer
• Can commit to teaching in a five-week summer program, working about 25 hours per week, with course planning during the spring
• May be interested in making Bridges their home for many summers to come

Role Details: Compensation, Supervision

• Salary is commensurate for a part time, seasonal position.
• The role is set to begin in early June.
• This role reports to the Elementary/Middle School Director at either the St. Paul’s School or the Gilman School.
• This role will be based at Bridges’ location at St. Paul’s Schools (Brooklandville, MD) or at the Gilman School (Baltimore, MD).
