General Description

This is the ideal position for a bilingual person (English-Spanish) based in Cusco, Peru, who is passionate about responsible consumption and the Quechua textile revitalization movement, and who specializes in social enterprise development, retail, and marketing. We are looking for the Ideal Someone who will become a key member of our team, and will be invested in our long-term vision and multi-year strategic plan.

This exciting position will manage our Mosqoy Peruvian Textiles social enterprise, which offers fair-trade market outlets and capacity-building for our five partnering weaving associations (approximately 100 women weavers) across the Sacred Valley and Mapacho River Valley regions of Cusco, Peru. This position is based in Cusco city with occasional travel to Quechua communities. It is responsible for the success and further development of the social enterprise, including maintaining its local, regional, and international wholesale partnerships; managing quality control and product design; and overseeing community relations. The position is the leader of a small international team, supervising 5-6 staff and volunteers in Cusco, Lima, and Victoria (Canada).

The goal of the position is to implement a long-term financially viable model for our Mosqoy Peruvian Textiles social enterprise, which increases revenue, while offering consistent high-quality products that align with Mosqoy’s values and support our partnering weaving communities.

Contract Dates

This position will start as soon as possible, but no later than May 2018. The position includes organizational orientation, mentorship, and job-specific training.

The position is a permanent position, with a minimum two-year commitment.

Hours & Location

This is a full-time position, 40 hours/week. Flexible schedule, as evenings and weekends will sometimes be required. The position will have access to a shared office space near the centre of Cusco.

The monthly salary is 2500 PEN (Peruvian Nuevo Soles) plus commission and benefits. Benefits include the basic Peruvian benefits package (planilla) as follows:

  • Gratifications (bonus payments) twice per year
  • Compensation for time served (CTS) twice per year
  • Health insurance (EsSalud)
  • 4 weeks of paid holiday per year

In addition to the Peruvian benefits package and sales-based commission, there are additional perks associated with the job.


  • Social Enterprise Development: Create sustainable business plan; including financial projections and records; and lead team in its implementation
  • Sales Management: Facilitate orders in all Cusco retail outlets; manage (and improve) product inventory; increase and improve relationships with wholesale partnerships locally and worldwide; coordinate textile shipments
  • Product Development: Work with designers and team members to refine our product lines and improve our quality-control mechanisms
  • Marketing: Share news, updates, and photos; raise awareness and engage the public through social media, blogs, and other marketing
  • Supervision: Supervise staff and volunteers who are part of Mosqoy Peruvian Textiles and its charitable program, Q’ente Textile Program. Such team members include the Lima and Victoria textile sales liaisons, and the Quechua community liaisons who visit each of the partnering weaving associations on a monthly basis.
  • Project Management: Through the supervision of the Quechua community liaisons, oversee community socioeconomic development projects that are funded through this social enterprise.

Required Skills & Certifications

  • Fluency (reading, writing, and speaking) in both English and Spanish
  • Expertise in social enterprise management and development
  • Expertise in retail, business management, and/or marketing
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Comfortable with financial management and bookkeeping
  • Strong computer skills: comfortable with Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word). Wiling to use Skype, Google Drive, etc.

Assets (desired but not required traits)

  • Relevant university degree
  • Experience living in a “developing” nation
  • Experience working for a small grassroots NGO
  • Enjoys hiking and the outdoors, and is prepared to stay in remote communities without modern amenities at times
  • Prior experience in product design
  • Prior experience in project management
  • Prior experience in graphic design
  • Basic digital photography skills and ability to upload photos online
  • Comprehension of Quechua language
  • From Cusco (or Peru, in general)
