Request for Proposal:

Digital Strategy Consultant

The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) and the Immigrant Justice Network (IJN) are accepting proposals for a Digital Strategy Consultant for the Immigrant Justice Network (IJN) and New Way Forward Campaign (NWF). The consultant will work closely with IJN members and staff and report to the IJN Coordinator, who is an experienced organizer. We are seeking a consultant to work on the NWF campaign through April of 2022.

Immigrant Legal Resource Center Background:

The ILRC is a national nonprofit legal support center headquartered in San Francisco with offices in Washington, D.C.; Austin, TX; Houston, TX; San Antonio, TX; and the San Joaquin Valley of California. The mission of the ILRC is to work with, educate, and enhance the capacity of immigrants, community organizations, and the legal sector, in order to build a democratic society that values diversity, dignity, and the rights of all people. Founded in 1979, the ILRC is regarded as one of the foremost experts on engaging immigrants and developing their leaderships, providing expertise on complex issues of immigration law, procedure and policy, and engaging in advocacy and educational initiatives on policies that affect immigrants. We are a team-based organization that makes decisions in a collaborative fashion that allows for significant staff input.

Immigrant Justice Network Background:

The Immigrant Justice Network (IJN) is a leading voice against the criminalization of immigrants in the United States. Grounded in racial justice values, we build power to defend the dignity of immigrants. We fight for a world where our communities are thriving and free from policing, deportation and imprisonment.

IJN is comprised of four core members: the Immigrant Defense Project (IDP), the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC), Just Futures Law (JFL) and the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild (NIPNLG). The network is also powered by five grassroots members: Families for Freedom, Grassroots Leadership, Puente Human Rights Movement, SEARAC and the Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN).

Since 2006, IJN has partnered with community groups and directly impacted individuals who have navigated or survived detention, deportation and criminal legal systems to achieve these goals. These partnerships help build long-lasting power for transformational change of our criminal and immigration systems.

The New Way Forward Campaign:

The New Way Forward (NWF) Campaign is a multi-faceted campaign with long-term goals to: 1) energize and build a base around inclusive policies that dismantle the architecture of criminalization, detention and deportation; 2) shift the narrative and public discourse around criminalization; 3) build support for these issues among policy-makers and advocates across movements; and 4) advance federal legislation that repeals harsh 1996 immigration laws and decriminalizes migration.

The Digital Strategy Consultant will work with IJN members and staff to develop and execute a digital media strategy to bring more attention to the New Way Forward Campaign and the issue of criminalization. The consultant will also help project manage the creation of digital assets such as videos, social media graphics and story banking as well as assist in developing social media campaign strategies. We are seeking a short-term consultant to work between 10-15 hours per week on the NWF campaign.

The proposal should address:

  • Experience with communications, digital media strategy and graphic design;
  • Experience with project management and creation of digital assets;
  • Experience developing and executing campaigns on social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram);
  • Experience creating e-newsletters and e-blasts on Mailchimp;

  • Familiarity with intersectional movement work, immigrant justice, and the intersection of criminal and immigration law;
