Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion & Publications Assistant

Organizational Context: ASA has a membership of almost 10,000 sociologists who are scholars, teachers, and practitioners. Its mission is to serve sociologists in their work, advance sociology as a discipline and profession, and promote the contributions and use of sociology to society. ASA’s office is located in Washington, D.C., but staff is working 100% remotely at present.

Essential Functions: Provide administrative support for two departments at ASA, at approximately half time each: (1) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and (2) Publications.


Tasks will include:

  • Support for the predoctoral Minority Fellowship Program
  • Support for other DEI-related initiatives
  • Article reprint permissions processes
  • Support for other publications-related activities
  • Webpage updating and maintenance
  • Support for relevant committees and advisory panels
  • Respond to relevant requests for assistance from members and staff
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned


Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Deputy Director.

Job Classification: Non-exempt

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic, maturity, and organizational savvy
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with teams
  • Enthusiasm for the work

Compensation: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. A full benefits package is provided to all ASA staff members.
