The Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) is a non-profit, multi-service organization focusing primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers. We operate at community centers located in East Harlem and Yorkville neighborhoods and seek to deliver impactful, innovative, and intergenerational programs.  


Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Advance and Earn, the Assistant Director, Participant Engagement and Support is responsible for supervising, monitoring, and evaluating case management and case assistance services in the Isaacs Center Youth Services. In addition, the Assistant Director will ensure that Education and Workforce Development programs are welcoming and engaging and support the social and emotional growth of each participant. The Assistant Director will manage the provision of individual and group support to children and young adults with significant needs. The Assistant Director is responsible for the training and coordination of case management and case assistance staff including part-time staff, seasonal staff, and interns. In addition, the Assistant Director will focus on the development of exemplary client service systems and advocacy. In conjunction with the Director of Advance and Earn at Isaacs Center, the Assistant Director will develop policy and procedures consistent with best practices in youth services, explore innovative models of service, and facilitate the development of an extensive resource/referral network for clients.  As a result of the efforts of the Assistant Director Isaacs Center will position itself as a client-centric and results-oriented service provider unlike any other in New York City.

 Qualifications and Experience

  • Must hold at least a LMSW, and at least 2 years of post-graduate experience in the human services/social services sector with diverse and vulnerable youth populations is preferred. 
  • Must possess strong writing, speaking, interpersonal and organizational skills and must be able represent Isaacs Center at external functions including meetings of the Board of Directors.
  • Demonstrated experience providing case management, facilitating group work, managing data, and effectively coordinating entitlements, benefits and community resource networks. 
  • Must value team building, work independently, and understand how to actively engage the community to address complex issues. 
  • Understanding of a performance monitoring and evaluation environment and results-based management


Primary Duties

  • Direct responsibility for the clinical supervision of case management and case assistance staff. 
  • Coordinates the recruitment, hiring, scheduling, supervision, staff development and evaluation of case management and case assistance staff including part-time staff, seasonal staff, and interns.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the case management and case assistance services.  
  • Ensures that the environment is conducive to welcoming participants with a history of social and emotional trauma.
  • Maintain a high level responsiveness with staff and create a free flow of communication, particularly when handling escalated and complex situations.
  • Support participant progress and development by periodically reassessing client needs and referring clients to community resources or other staff.
  • Leads the efforts to provide trauma-informed care in all individual and group counseling settings.
  • Provide individual and group workshops in alignment with needs/expertise/requirements.
  • Coordinates clinical services, staffing patterns, data entry, client flow, and resource procurement and crisis management/intervention as appropriate.
  • Provide individual, group, and walk-in based counseling services including case assistance and case management to children and young adults following all agency standards and procedures
  • Responsible for the development of policies and procedures in accordance with best practices, licensure, and funding requirements. Actively involved in data collection and reporting. 
  • Develops, monitors, and executes the quality assurance program for Case Management Services.
  • Provide focused engagement with community members on entitlements/benefits matters, legal issues, college and career development, financial independence and housing stability.
  • Facilitates all advocacy activity on behalf of Youth Services.
  • Serves as member on external-facing coalitions and committees.
  • Participates in and develops linkages with other agencies, institutions and organizations.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

  • Adhere to temperature screening when and upon arrival at the worksite.  
  • Routinely wear cotton face masks, face coverings, or disposable masks and utilize provided personal protective equipment as instructed.  
  • Wash hands frequently, including at arrival and departure from the worksite, and use hand sanitizing stations throughout the work period.  
  • Ensure that interpersonal interactions always meet the physical distancing measure of 6 feet.
