MISSION OF ORGANIZATION

Project Create provides opportunities for creative youth development through accessible, multidisciplinary arts education to empower young people and amplify their voices. We collaborate with children, youth and families in an inclusive and supportive community where art is healing and transformative.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Program Manager, Community Partnership Programs (CPP) will provide program management and leadership; community outreach and student engagement; data collection and analysis; development and communications support; and general program administration and support to Project Create’s Director of Programs in carrying out the organization’s mission. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Management & Leadership (50%)

● Implement and oversee multi-disciplinary, curriculum-based arts education programs that are consistent with Project Create’s mission, vision and values

● Identify and implement arts enrichment activities and opportunities inside and outside of Project Create classes, including workshops and field trips to local arts institutions

● Produce and promote regular exhibitions and performances of student work to engage audiences, promote student artists, and increase program visibility

● Coordinate and supervise CPP program staff, including teaching artists, teaching assistants, volunteers and interns, including management of contracts, scopes of work, background checks, invoices, etc.

● Deliver high-quality programs according to established organizational outcomes and best practices for positive youth development.

● Cultivate a positive learning environment that is youth-centered, culturally-competent and trauma-informed

Community Engagement (20%)

● Recruit and retain community partnerships

● Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with students and families, and work to connect students to our organization and studio programs through promotion of studio classes, workshops and events

● Identify, initiate and manage relationships with a wide variety of constituencies and community stakeholders, connecting community members to Project Create staff and programs

● Update and maintain current Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with partners, deliver fee-for-service invoices, and collect program fees as appropriate

● Implement annual 360° evaluations with partners

● Request and maintain updated Letters of Support and “testimonials” from current partners

● In partnership with the Director of Programs and Executive Director, apply partnership evaluation template to prospective partners to determine relevance and suitability of potential new partnerships for Project Create

Community Outreach (10%)

● Collaborate with program staff on plans for marketing, outreach and student recruitment

● Manage Community Engagement Intern in tasks related to community outreach, including the development and training of a Community Engagement Team

● Work closely with Community Engagement Intern to promote partnership relationships via social media

● Oversee community outreach efforts, including invitations to “table” and/or provide arts workshops at events

● Engage the community through interactive art making to support the promotion of Project Create programs

● Develop contacts with local community members, artists and art educators for student recruitment, community support and teacher recruitment

● Maintain and grow community contact database

● Attend community council and other local meetings and events to promote Project Create

Evaluation & Impact (10%)

● Collaborate with program staff to maintain data management systems and program evaluation processes, adhering to grant requirements

● Manage survey administration and collection of programmatic data (i.e., attendance records, student information)

● Oversee collection of informal program evaluation materials, including student artwork samples, photographs, videos and artist’s statements

● Communicate collected data in clear, comprehensive reports that demonstrate Project Create’s programmatic outcomes and impact

Program Administration (10%)

● Participate in the development and management of annual CPP budget and submit receipts and financial expense reports according to organizational guidelines

● Provide programming content for Project Create’s website as well as for social media

● Maintain a current inventory of art supplies by ordering and replenishing arts supplies as needed

● Supervise safety standards and adherence to CPP policies

● Provide for upkeep of equipment to ensure that program environments are safe, welcoming and inspiring spaces

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Required

● Highly-motivated with strong managerial and leadership skills

● Excellent verbal and written communication

● Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills to effectively work collaboratively with a variety of people in diverse communities

● Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment with limited resources

● Thorough, accurate, organized and detail-oriented approach to work

● Culturally competent and demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion

● Ability to gain the respect and support of various constituencies, including students and families, board and staff members, donors, community leaders and other stakeholders

● Ability to lead multiple long and short-term projects simultaneously, meeting all related deadlines

● Commitment to work collaboratively with Project Create’s Executive Director and program staff

Preferred

● Enthusiastic advocate for accessible arts education as a means to positive youth development

● Ability to present, inform and motivate individuals and groups about Project Create’s mission and programs

● Strong knowledge and understanding of local and national community arts education communities, as well as local and national homelessness and poverty advocacy communities

● Computer literate and working familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or other design software

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE 

● A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant area of study (e.g. Fine Art, Art History, Arts Management) from a nationally accredited institution required

● Advanced degree/certification in Art Therapy, Nonprofit Management, Arts Management, Social Work or similar preferred

● Minimum of 2 years demonstrated leadership, mentoring, teaching and/or training experience with students and teaching artists in an arts education organization required

● Management experience in an arts organization, museum or public gallery, with studio and multi-use facility management preferred 

WORKING CONDITIONS

● 40+ hours/week work schedule, including evening and weekend work

● Local travel between Anacostia arts center and greater Washington DC metro area

● Frequent use of 15-passenger van
