The UN World Food Programme (WFP) is the frontline humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. On average, WFP reaches more than 80 million people with food assistance in 75 countries. Around 14,000 people work for the organization, most of them in remote areas, directly serving the hungry poor. In Iraq, WFP assists conflict-affected families in every corner of the country. By providing food, cash and vouchers to displaced Iraqis and Syrian refugees, WFP is helping to save lives and livelihoods. In collaboration with the WFP Innovation Accelerator, the Iraq Country Office has launched a digital livelihoods program connecting the most vulnerable refugees and host communities to income generating opportunities through remote online freelancing work.
Job will focus on implementing and improving our digital skills training and work programme under close supervision of the WFP Innovation Accelerator team. The Project Manager, under delegated authority from the Emergency Coordinator and working closely with the Tech for Food Operations lead, will work on the following topics: Drive forward the local digital skills training, work program in Iraq, and oversee implementation partners/NGOs Oversee the operations and day-to day-management as related to WFP processes, i.e. Cash-based transfers, Monitoring and Evaluation, Budget management etc. Coordinate micro-work projects with private sector partners Closely collaborate with the Innovation Accelerator team on testing and implementing new innovations and partnerships Support build-up of strong local partnership network.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
1. Drive forward the local digital skills training and work program in Iraq and oversee local implementation partners/NGOs:
Actively execute all project relevant tasks in regards to organization, communication and coordination Constantly coordinate and communicate with implementation partners
Support the pilot operations including recruiting of staff and participants, day-to day management as well as administration, monitoring and evaluation.
Provide analysis & content preparation (Powerpoint presentations, concept notes, briefs, etc.) for management meetings
Participate and carry out discussions with senior managers in other divisions or external stakeholders on topics related to the pilot and innovation
Plan and execute recruiting of staff and participants in close coordination with partners
Expand the program from Sulaymaniyah to other areas of Iraq and set up new campuses in these locations.
2. Oversee the operations and day-to day-management as related to WFP processes, i.e. Cash-based transfers, Monitoring and Evaluation, Budget management etc:
Liaise with WFP support units and teams to ensure all aspects of the project are executed in accordance with WFP standards of high transparency and compliance.
Work closely with relevant units to manage the project budget, anticipate spending needs and ensure proper, compliant and timely expenditure of allocated funds.
3. Coordinate micro-work projects with private sector partners
Discuss project details with private sector and other partners and understand project requirements, timelines, roles and responsibilities
Recommend and implement best practice for managing and delivering the project in line with partner needs
Break down the project into milestones corresponding to the abilities of the students
Communicate and relay the information to field staff and ensure proper execution of all aspects of the project
Maintain a consistent and dynamic feedback loop with the partners
4. Closely collaborate with the Innovation Accelerator team on testing and implementing new innovations and partnerships
Conduct extensive local research, develop new concept ideas and continuously share findings with WFP Innovation colleagues
Maintain a regular stream of communication and a steady reporting line
Support project pilots, testing and improvements as required
5. Support build-up of strong local partnership network
Build strong partnerships and promote the projects and approach of the Munich WFP Innovation Accelerator office
Liaise with local governmental and humanitarian organizations as well as the private sector for potential partnerships and cooperation
Engage local and global innovation and tech community to act as partners to drive forward innovations with potential for zero hunger
6. Any other tasks as required
Level of Language Proficiency
High proficiency in written and spoken Arabic and English, knowledge an additional UN language is a plus.
