POSITION:         National Press Secretary

LOCATION:        COVID-19 Remote then based in Washington, DC by January 1, 2022


American Bridge 21st Century, a progressive research and communications organization, is seeking a communications professional to serve as National Press Secretary to implement the messaging, earned media and press strategies for the presidential team. 

 

This position will be a member of the organization’s senior staff and will be responsible for interfacing with partners and allies as well as coordinating with other members of the leadership team. This position may be remote but will be expected to be based in American Bridge’s Washington, DC office by January 1, 2022.


Primary responsibilities include:

•       Creating and executing earned media and messaging strategies in key swing states to bolster support for President Biden and the Democratic Party’s agenda, serving as an on-the-record spokesperson for those efforts.

•       Creatively developing and implementing press strategies for American Bridge 21st Century’s co-chairs to secure positive coverage and advance our message.

•       Pitching stories to local, state, and national media outlets.

•       Building and maintaining relationships with local, state and national reporters.

•       Working with partners and allies on earned media efforts.

•       Drafting products — including op-eds, press releases, and other materials for media consumption — to drive coverage in target states and markets.

•       Managing press assistants to ensure our systems are up-to-date and that we are tracking clips, maintaining press lists, and helping to amplify partner organizations’ messages.

•       Working closely with the research, digital, video and paid media teams to identify and develop press strategies to amplify our message and further our communications goals.

•       Participating in regular strategy sessions on overall message development as well as press plans for the week/day ahead. 

•       Managing press assistants to ensure our systems are up-to-date and that we are tracking clips, maintaining press lists, and amplifying partner organizations’ messages.


Skills and qualifications required:

•       Have at least six years of experience in a communications capacity on a campaign or in a similar environment.

Campaign experience in a leadership role is strongly preferred.

•       Experience developing and implementing creative, impactful earned media strategies.

•       Experience working closely with researchers to pitch stories. 

•       Have significant on-the-record experience. 

•       Have a firm grasp of today’s traditional and social media environments. 

•       Have a great sense of humor and creativity.

•       Enjoy working closely with others of diverse backgrounds and personalities.

•       Work well under pressure and on deadline.


American Bridge 21st Century PAC offers a competitive salary range, starting at $80,000 for this position, and a strong benefits package. American Bridge 21st Century is a union employer. This position is not in the bargaining unit.
