·        Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and at least two years of paid accounting experience

·        Demonstrated knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

·        Demonstrated knowledge of financial and accounting software applications

·        Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state financial regulations and the ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports and statements


The Accountant is responsible for:

·        Assisting with the development of the annual operating budget and consulting with departmental management on the fiscal aspects of program planning, salary recommendations, and other administrative actions;

·        Preparing bank, payroll, and other account reconciliations;

·        Preparing and tracking milestone vouchers for submission to funding agencies for payment; preparing monthly closing and cost accounting reports;

·        Compiling and analyzing financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and document business transactions;

·        Analyzing and reviewing budgets and expenditures for local, state, federal, and private funding, contracts, and grants;

·        Explaining billing invoices and accounting policies to staff, vendors and clients;

·        Resolving accounting discrepancies;

·        Recommending, developing and maintaining financial databases, computer software systems and manual filing systems; 

·        Interacting with internal and external auditors in completing audits; and

·        Performing all other assigned, pertinent tasks, expressed or implied in this job description.
