We're hiring! Make a difference! Join our RMH Boston Harbor team in Charlestown, MA as our Volunteer Coordinator. RMH Boston Harbor leases and operates private one-bedroom apartments which are used by families whose children are receiving extended medical care at Boston area hospitals.


Position Summary:

The Volunteer Coordinator is a full time, exempt salaried position. Incumbent is responsible for the leadership and integration of volunteers into the Ronald McDonald House. He/she coordinates and facilitates the recruitment, training, scheduling, retention, and recognition of volunteers and is the first personal point of contact for people who wish to volunteer for the organization. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for achieving what is absolutely critical for the long term sustainability of the Ronald McDonald House: involving volunteers in every part of our mission.


Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree required with some volunteer recruitment experience or experience being a volunteer

• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently with strict attention to detail

• Strong leadership skills with effective communication to motivate volunteers in a supportive atmosphere.

• Strong computer skills with experience in computer operations such as Word, Excel, etc.

• Ability to embrace RMHCNE core values statement

• Experience working with diverse groups

• Ability to adapt and remain composed during stressful/crises situations

• Dependable, detail-oriented, excellent judgment with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple and diverse tasks.


Position Responsibilities:


Volunteer Management and Support

• Assume primary responsibility for recruiting, training, scheduling and supervising volunteers.

• Provide orientation and ongoing training and skill development of volunteers to address program needs as they arise.

• Schedule a formal retraining session for active volunteers at least once per year.

• Develop, implement, and maintain a volunteer recruitment, retention, and recognition plan.

• Prioritize tasks across different work areas and departments, identifying which areas need volunteer work the most critically at any given time.

• Develop detailed lists for volunteers to complete

• Coordinate volunteer recruitment and scheduling to ensure a full complement of volunteers for each shift of operation including overnight and on call.

• Coordinate and schedule Meal Prep and Activity volunteers ensuring that hosts are properly informed of guidelines and thanked for their participation.

• Coordinate volunteer scheduling by maintaining and updating the master list of shifts as well as a complete list of volunteers with updated contact information.

• Revise and maintain all volunteer forms and training materials.

• Find coverage when volunteers cannot do shifts. If necessary, provide coverage for the shift

• Provide a listening ear for volunteers’ concerns and suggestions.

• Recruit and coordinate student interns/work study program

• Plan and Execute the Annual Volunteer Appreciation event

• Maintain detailed records/statistics regarding volunteer hours, retention and services provided

• Participate in community based activities as related to the House

Communication

• Organize recruitment through print and online resources to educate prospective volunteers about different areas of volunteering.

• Draft and distribute the quarterly Volunteer Newsletter

• Represent the Ronald McDonald House at events where we might find useful volunteers from specific backgrounds.

• Report to the Director of Operations on a regular basis regarding volunteer issues and other program concerns.

• Communicate regularly with Family Service Manager regarding volunteer needs.

• Communicate with groups, schools and troops regarding one time volunteer opportunities and donation drives.

House Operations /Family Support

• Assist the Family Service Manager with overseeing the family referral process and prioritize the referral & wait lists. Assist with providing families on wait list alternative housing options when possible.

• Serves as a point of contact for all guests staying at the Ronald McDonald House, assists guests with various requests and needs in a supportive & friendly manner throughout the guests’ entire stay at the Ronald McDonald House.

• Provide excellent customer service to all our families and volunteers who enter our doors

• Participate in on-call rotation

• Assist with family and maintenance issues that arise

• Collaborate with other staff members to ensure the highest quality of care for our families.

• Assist the Director of Operations and Family Service Manager as needed.

• Other duties as necessary.
