Additionally, Green Dot’s first turnaround, Alain LeRoy Locke College Preparatory Academy, was named Charter School of the Year by the California Charter Schools Association in 2019.

OPPORTUNITY

The Curriculum Specialist in Secondary Science will support teachers in the implementation of the Green Dot Science Program at multiple schools.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

> Provide teachers with coaching and support to implement grade level NGSS-aligned science instruction to ALL students, including English Learners, Standard English Learners, Gifted and Talented Students, and Students with Disabilities.

> Promote standards-based instruction by providing demonstration lessons, focused observations, and professional development on research-based instructional strategies and classroom practices and provide opportunities for teacher reflection.

> Assist with curriculum planning to ensure mastery of the NGSS standards and GD selected curricular materials.

> Provide support and assistance to all school site science teachers in the implementation of the Green Dot Science Program and benchmark assessments.

> Assist teachers with the diagnosis of student difficulties in science through the use of student data and evidence and the planning of appropriate intervention strategies for diverse learners. 

> Work collaboratively with the Science Team, school site administration and department chairs/ teacher leaders to plan and facilitate science professional development.

> Collaborate with teachers and other members of the coaching team to develop science pacing guides and benchmark assessments for use across the organization.

> Engage in other duties relevant to the successful implementation of the Green Dot Science Program/Initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

> A valid secondary science credential (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geosciences) is required

> A Masters in Education (or related field) is preferred

> Experience teaching HS Physics and/or Chemistry is strongly preferred

> Master in Education (or related field) preferred

> You are passionate about improving urban schools and driving education reform

> You have at least four years of successful teaching of science at the secondary school level

> You are able to travel between the district office and school sites/other locations

> You are knowledgeable of the Next Generation Science Standards and 3D-aligned instruction and assessment

> You are knowledgeable about differentiated classroom instructional practices that promote student academic success in mathematics

> You possess both knowledge and understanding of the needs of a diverse student population (EL, SEL, SpEd, and gifted and talented)

> You have strong oral and written communication skills

> You have experience in collaborative planning and delivery of differentiated staff development to classroom teachers

> You have a strong ethical base and self-awareness

> You are dependable, humble, have a sense of humor and a rock-solid commitment to Green Dot’s mission and the communities we serve

> You will need to pass a TB test and background check at time of offer

Salary

$75,000 - $85,000The annual salary for this position is $75,000 - $85,000, depending on experience.
