The Mongan Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking a full-time Senior Data Analyst to support the research activities under Dr. Stephen Bartels. Reporting to Dr. Bartels, the Senior Data Analyst will play a key role in conducting research analyses. The Senior Data Analyst will work collaboratively with a dynamic team of investigators, including health services researchers, clinicians, and biostatisticians, as needed. The Senior Data Analyst will be responsible for translating research questions into analytic plans; analyzing data; conducting valid statistical tests and statistical models; and assisting with data visualization and communicating findings in presentations and manuscripts. The initial primary focus will be establishing a data management platform, overseeing data management, and executing analyses for a large, recently funded to determine and implement best practices in the prevention of COVID-19 for adults with serious mental illness and intellectual and developmental disabilities and the staff providing care in congregate living settings funded by the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI).  In addition to conducting surveys and conducting large data set analysis and simulation modeling of best practices, this project will engage stakeholders from a variety of organizations to select optimal best practices followed by a study of effectiveness and implementation involving 400 group homes with 2000 residents and 3000 staff in Massachusetts.  In addition to determining the effectiveness of tailoring approaches to the specific needs of people with serious mental illness and developmental and intellectual disabilities, the study team will also work to develop approaches that address COVID-19 health disparities that may be associated with race, ethnicity, and degree of disability. The Senior Data Analyst will oversee data analyses, codebook development and data cleaning for a large PCORI funded study along with other related studies. The candidate will be responsible for setting up data systems, communicating information from the data analysts to the research assistants, and ensuring the quality of the data. S/he will take part in data management and data cleaning, including collaboration with project managers and interviewers to ensure accuracy of the data, accounting for missing data and addressing data structure to best inform analysis. S/he will work with observational and newly collected intervention and implementation research data to create longitudinal datasets to assure quality and answer key questions for investigators including creating longitudinal cohorts that will be analyzed over time; and conducting valid statistical tests and advanced modeling. The Senior Data Analyst will work on various data-focused tasks including, but not limited to data cleaning, data harmonization, data quality control, and data analysis and interpretation (e.g. multivariate regression analyses, survival analyses, etc.).  In addition, the Senior Data Analyst will generate data reports and analysis as needed to inform project planning. The manager/analyst will also create programs for analysis, and participate in manuscript development. Finally, this individual will supervise research assistants in data entry, and set up systems to track and record progress and will participate in reports and research manuscript development.  Consistent with all of these activities, the Data Analyst will apply excellent data cleaning/evaluation, data management, and statistical programming skills.


Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required: 

·       Master’s degree in statistics, biostatistics, public health or other related social science field with strong quantitative emphasis.

·       Experience in data management or/and statistical analysis in a research setting.

·       Excellent attention to detail

·       Intermediate experience with statistical analysis. 

·       Familiarity with SAS preferred as well as experience with R, Python, or similar programming languages. 

·       Basic knowledge of computer programs used for data entry such as SPSS, Excel or Access. Strong programming skills.

·       Excellent communication skills and the ability to function well as a member of a team.   

·       This position requires attention to detail, especially in ensuring data quality and accuracy. The ability to work simultaneously on various tasks, to maintain attention to detail, and to effectively contribute to the project team are also essential.
