REPORTS TO: Director of Development

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May participate in supervising staff such as Development/Administrative Assistant.

LOCATION: Boston, MA

Grade/Class: Grade F, Exempt, PSA-Eligible

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is the leading anti-hate organization in the world. Founded in 1913 in response to an escalating climate of antisemitism and bigotry, its timeless mission is to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and secure justice and fair treatment to all. Today, ADL continues to fight antisemitism and all forms of hate using innovation and partnerships to drive impact. ADL’s ultimate goal is a world in which no individual or community suffers from bias, discrimination or hate.

ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt—an accomplished leader and entrepreneur in the corporate, public, and nonprofit sectors—was recruited to the organization in July 2015. He has injected new energy and brought a bold vision to the agency. Under Jonathan’s leadership, ADL is transforming itself, upgrading its capabilities and pioneering new horizons.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Associate Director of Development for the ADL New England Region focuses on building and cultivating relationships with new and existing foundation donors and stewarding all donors with care and attention. Of equal importance is the Associate Director’s commitment to smooth and innovative communication with our donors and lay-leadership as part of a team working toward our organization’s ambitious annual fundraising goals. In addition to the above, the Associate DoD manages an individual donor portfolio and is charged with implementing targeted solicitation strategies to close gifts. This role works closely with the Region’s Director of Development and Regional and Divisional colleagues to drive engagement efforts and fundraising in support of ADL’s mission and initiatives. An ideal candidate will have flexibility as the right balance of responsibilities is established, with a likely ideal balance of 25% corporate/foundation relations (proposal and report writing), 25% stewardship of foundations and individuals, 25% individual donor portfolio work, 25% direct mail strategy coordination with national colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Divisional Communications colleagues to initiate regional direct mail and email campaigns and coordinate with national colleagues to align communications and recipient strategy.
  • Work closely with Regional Board and committee lay-leadership. Attend Board and committee meetings and events. In some cases, oversee specific Board initiatives and projects.
  • Participate in programmatic events to define and enhance fundraising potential.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ADL’s Culture of Philanthropy initiative; for example, viewing development as relationship-based and long-term vs. transactional.
  • Strong connection to ADL’s mission and social justice.

  • Comfort in working with colleagues remotely across the country essential.

Work Experience:

  • Five to seven years of fundraising experience required, with focus on institutional/foundation donors.
  • Experience in soliciting and closing individual gifts required.
  • Experience with donor relations and stewardship a plus.
