Media Matters for America — a progressive, Washington, D.C.-based, nonprofit research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media — seeks a Media Analyst for our Media Intelligence Department. s.

Role Summary:

The Media Analyst is a member of the Media Intelligence Department, which monitors and organizes the Media Matters’ live and archival print, online, broadcast, and social media recordings and tracks right-wing misinformation, smears, and attacks. The Media Analyst will monitor and analyze broadcast, print, online and social media outlets to track misinformation and other trends in the media, and also help out with departmental and cross-departmental data projects and studies. The Media Analyst position is an entry level position.

Reporting Structure:

  • The Media Analyst reports to the Media Intelligence Director.


Monitoring and Data Collection

  • Facilitate and perform ongoing monitoring of news, social media outlets, and sources across multiple platforms, including television, radio, print, and digital.
  • Draft summaries and memos about trends, narratives, and emerging topics in the media landscape.
  • Coordinate, complete, and track short- and long-term data collection and analysis of media for Media Intelligence Department quantitative studies as needed.
  • Utilize and develop expertise in multiple media recording and corresponding network applications.
  • Write written content about topics and trends observed through monitoring and data collection.


  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, journalism, or relevant field or equivalent professional experience in politics or journalism or in quantitative/qualitative data collection and analysis.
  • Extensive familiarity with media recording applications, such as Snapstream, TV Eyes, iQ Media, and Veritone. Familiarity with Excel and Google Forms highly desired.
  • Interest in and understanding of the political and media environment, particularly the impact conservative misinformation has on the public debate both in the past and during the Trump administration.
  • Familiarity with the format, content, challenges, and opportunities of the 24-hour news cycle across multiple platforms.
  • Ability to quickly synthesize information about new topics.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, but can also work independently day-to-day.
  • Ability to plan and manage work under a tight deadline.
  • Ability to multitask and adjust in fast-paced and high-pressure situations.
