Are you passionate about empowering young individuals and fostering inclusivity in communities? Do you believe in creating a world where all youth can grow up feeling proud and supported in their identities? If so, Act To Change has an exciting and unique opportunity for you as our first Executive Director!

ABOUT US:

At Act To Change, we envision a world where all youth have the opportunity to grow up feeling proud and supported in their identities. Our journey began as a public awareness campaign under President Obama's White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs), in partnership with the Sikh Coalition and the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment. This inspiring campaign initially focused on bullying prevention among youth who identify as AAPI, Sikh, Muslim, LGBTQ+, and/or as immigrants, establishing Act To Change as the only national group with this essential primary focus.

Today, Act To Change is a national 501(c)(3) organization, forging a path towards positive change and empowerment for young individuals. We have embraced an interdisciplinary approach that spans education, public health, and civil rights, recognizing that progress requires both collaboration and innovative solutions.

Since its launch, Act To Change has left an indelible mark on the lives of thousands of young individuals. We have led educational programming for K-12 youth, providing them with essential tools and resources to navigate the challenges they may face. Moreover, we serve as a valuable resource for educators and caregivers, supporting them in creating inclusive and nurturing environments for their students. By building strong coalitions with advocacy organizations, we have effectively influenced policy and made a significant impact on the lives of AAPI youth.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

We are seeking an exceptional and visionary person that will serve as a key management leader that reports to our Board and has the exciting and unique opportunity to spearhead a mission that focuses on the following three areas:

  • Delivering high-impact programs and services that support our AAPI youth communities, both in person and online. Ongoing events include the Youth Ambassadors Program, engaging and empowering AAPI youth by providing them the resources and tools they need to end bullying in their communities, the Annual AAPI Day Against Bullying+Hate, rallying over 200 organizations and celebrities, and the National Bullying Prevention Changemakers Summit for AAPIs, offering a range of workshops, panels, creative spaces and community discussions for AAPI youth that inform, educate, empower, and celebrate them.
  • Creating systemic change and building empathy in K-12 classrooms by bringing programming like the Homeroom Series, which aims to ensure that kids have the resources they need to be advocates against bullying within their schools and communities, to classrooms, and developing culturally sensitive curriculum and resources for students, educators, and school psychologists.
  • Creating awareness of bullying on AAPI youth through the implementation, analysis, and dissemination of results from a national survey.
  • Contributing to systemic change to end bullying by advocating for effective federal and state policies in partnership with community organizations and participating in joint task forces, coalitions including the Hate Crimes Task Force, Teach for America, Stop AAPI Hate, the National Council for Asian Pacific Americans and TAAF Anti-Hate Network.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

1. Executive & Organizational Leadership:

  • Spearheading a process in partnership with the Board that ensures the fulfillment of Act To Change’s mission through strategic planning and community outreach.
  • Implementing our programming to support AAPI youth communities and build empathy in K-12 classrooms.
  • Overseeing the organization's financial management, ensuring that we operate within the approved budget and maintain a positive financial position.
  • Assessing and evaluating organizational practices to align the organization around goals and objectives outlined in strategic planning.

2. External Leadership & Fundraising:

  • Ensuring financial sustainability and growth of Act To Change through strategic fundraising and strong financial management.
  • Serving as one of Act To Change's primary spokespeople to constituents, the media, and the public.

  • Leveraging your networking skills to identify new opportunities for collaboration and resource development.
  • Engaging with influential individuals and organizations to promote Act to Change's mission and initiatives.
  • Representing Act To Change at events, conferences, and community gatherings to increase visibility and forge strategic partnerships.

3. Operations & Board Engagement:

  • Establishing employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions.
  • Overseeing marketing and communications efforts to increase the organization's visibility.
  • Providing necessary information to the Board for informed decision-making.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED:

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • 5+ years of senior nonprofit management experience.
  • Active fundraising experience with excellent donor relations skills.
  • Transparent and high integrity leadership.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors.
