The Math Department at Emma Willard School seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated instructor to join a highly-collaborative, innovative mathematics department for the 2018-19 school year. The full-time Math instructor reports to the Math Department Chair. S/he will teach four sections of math and will be able to teach a range of math courses (algebra I through calculus). The instructor will collaborate regularly with other teachers of all levels to ensure an integrated and cohesive mathematics curriculum. S/he will be responsible for co-curricular activities (e.g. coaching, after school physical education, advising a student activity group, etc.) that fill the needs of the school and hopefully, intersect with the interest or expertise of instructor. The ideal candidate will have experience and facility with problem-based learning, and will have an active interest in the use of academic technology tools in mathematics education. Dedication to the holistic wellness of students is essential, as is ability and comfort in frequent communication with students’ advisors and parents.


The ideal candidate would hold a master’s degree in mathematics and have a minimum of three years of teaching experience. The candidate should demonstrate excellence in course design, planning and implementation. S/he should have a strong desire to contribute to a collaborative faculty. The candidate should have patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines. The candidate should be a strong advocate for all-girls’ education. Finally, this individual should approach their work with a sense of humor and joy. Special consideration may be given to candidates with interest and ability in athletic coaching.
