The Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence (ATASK) is looking for a passionate, resourceful, and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Shelter Residential Counselor. ATASK's mission is to prevent domestic violence in Asian families and communities, and to provide hope to survivors.


Schedule: Overnight shifts are from 8pm to 8am // Weekend and Holiday Shifts are from 8am to 8pm (Day) and 8pm to 8am (Night).


Reports to: Housing Coordinator


Position Summary: The Shelter Residential Counselor is a Full-Time position responsible for maintaining and overseeing the daily operations of ATASK’s emergency domestic violence shelter during week nights, weekends, and holidays.

This is an exciting opportunity for those looking for hands-on experience in social work and advocacy. Additionally, the Shelter Residential Counselor position is suitable for candidates who have daytime jobs, school, or other daytime engagements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

·      Answer ATASK’s 24-hour hotline calls

·      Assist residents with everyday basic needs

·      Be available to shelter residents when needed

·      Provide emotional support to residents

·      Foster and develop relationships with residents to build a strong sense of community

·      Comprehensively understand and enforce shelter rules, protocols, and procedures

·      Possess a clear understanding of Shelter staff and CBS advocate’s roles – provide support, information, referrals, and collaborate communications between shelter residents and other direct services staff

·      Report in writing and communicate with Housing and Shelter Coordinators when issues arise

·      Prepare bedrooms and assigned kitchen space for new residents

·      Clean bedroom and kitchen space when residents move out

·      Assist with move-ins and move-outs

·      Give shelter tours to new residents and assist them in settling in

·      Perform other duties as required within appropriate time frames according to daily duty log and assignments

·      Ensure security of the house and conduct walk-through periodically

·      Maintain confidential records and summary logs

·      Enforce and oversee community cleaning/chores with residents

·      Maintain cleanliness of the house

·      Address maintenance issues when possible, and report maintenance issues that were not resolved

·      Staff are permitted to sleep during overnight shifts when all the tasks are completed, and are expected to wake up to answer the 24-hour hotline and respond to needs of shelter program participants when needed


Other Responsibilities

·      Assist in distributing donations and other items to clients when necessary

·      Coordinate and initiate in-house activities with families


Requirements

·      H.S. diploma or equivalent

·      Preserve our clients’ confidentiality as well as the location of the shelter

·      Finish state-required 25-hour Domestic Violence Training provided by the agency

·      CPR/First Aid Certification

·      Pass CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check

·      Attend monthly staff meetings and scheduled supervisions

·      Ability to manage crisis situations and resolve conflicts/issues

·      Commitment to ATASK mission of eradication of domestic violence and strengthening of Asian families and communities


*Due to the nature of responsibilities, this role requires coming into the shelter in person. Because of COVID-19, there are several safety measures in place including periodic testing, use of PPE, adherence to CDC guidelines, and avoiding public transportation to and from the shelter. ATASK can assist if applicant does not have access to a vehicle*


Preferred Qualifications

·      Excellent interpersonal skills

·      Experience working in a residential facility and/or with domestic violence survivors

·      Ability to prioritize and multitask

·      Conversational proficiency in an Asian language beneficial, but not required

·      Passion for Social justice

·      Enjoys working with children

·      Flexible schedule to work additional shifts when needed
