IRC's Global Partnerships and Philanthropy (GPP) department is responsible for the global delivery of the International Rescue Committee's private sector resources (financially contributing circa USD200m per annum, as well as key partnerships and influence that support our mission), and plays an important strategic role in the creation of IRC's brand, awareness and support for its advocacy goals.
The IRC's strategy centers on its ambition to continue to improve the scale and effectiveness of IRC programs worldwide with evidence of what works best to impact people's lives in conflict and fragile settings. GPP comprises colleagues and teams delivering marketing, account management, leadership gifts, board liaison, corporate partnerships, brand stewardship and communications to support this work. These colleagues are primarily located in the USA at present - but IRC plans to significantly expand its global fundraising footprint. Other colleagues within IRC are also deeply engaged with private funding & partners - in particular within Europe, US Resettlement and field programmes - and we need to work in close integrated collaboration to ensure best use of resources and highest impact for IRC.
GPP has begun delivering a new radical and ambitious 2020 Private Sector Engagement strategy that will enhance IRC's ability to 'punch above its weight' in income, partnership and awareness. At the same time - believing that the root of our success lies in a high performance team and culture - we need to build our internal infrastructure, ensure we build a strong global team, a dynamic culture, a forward thinking ethos, and establish 21st century analytics, reporting, operational and business management practices that will help us achieve our ambitious goals.
Positioned within Leadership Gifts USA, the Principal Gifts team has a goal of maximizing private individual support for the IRC. The Principal Gifts team engages, cultivates, solicits and stewards significant, multi-yearcommitmentsfrom ultra-high net worth individual supporters of the IRC, often in partnership with the IRC's CEO and Board leadership.
The Senior Officer will work closely with the Director of Principal Gifts to build strategy in support of a growing portfolio of ultra-high net worth individuals, particularly those who may hold C-suite roles at existing and prospective IRC corporate and private foundation partners. Working across fundraising teams, the Senior Officer will work closely with International Leadership Gifts colleagues to develop creative and comprehensive cultivation strategies, execute on engagement plans, and manage solicitations of individuals with sensitivity to broader partnership discussions and status. The Senior Officer will oversee a dedicated Account Manager who will partner on all elements of portfolio and relationship management.
1. Create strategic correspondence, including solicitations, cultivation pieces, reports and other stewardship materials, to engage high value donors and prospects. Design tactics and long term engagement strategy to deepen donor commitment and increase giving.
2. Choreograph, prepare strategy, briefing and debriefing materials for face-to-face meetings and solicitations with Principal donors conducted by senior staff and/or Board leadership.
3. Collaborate with colleagues across the IRC, notably International Development colleagues and field staff, to align donor and organizational priorities in a way that maximizes income for the IRC and creates multi-faceted, deep engagement with the organization.
4. Work collaboratively witha dedicated portfolio account managers to strategize and actively track and measure progress toward financial goals and movement of prospects and donors across the donor lifecycle.
Education: Bachelor's Degree or higher
Work Experience: 6-8 years of progressive non-profit fundraising experience and demonstrated expertise in private sector fundraising, major gifts or principal gifts fundraising, including direct solicitation of donors.
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
- Exceptional written communications skills and solid verbal presentation skills;
- Experience with direct solicitation of 6 and 7 figure gifts from a large and shifting portfolio of donors and prospects.
- Experience and/or exposure to multi-channel private sector fundraising including corporate and private foundation partnerships;
- Ability to develop creative and nuanced donor strategy, often on behalf of senior leadership;
- Responsive to change in a fast paced work environment while keeping donor priorities at the center of strategy and relationship building;
- Ability to diplomatically and sensitively collaborate across teams internally, regardless of distance, and garner support for and execute initiatives effectively;
- Ability to identify, create, and execute processes necessary to support effective donor relationships;
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data;
- Past experience with management / coaching individuals or teams;
- Commitment to fundraising for international development, humanitarian, human rights, social justice and US immigrant communities;

Working Environment:This role requires working remotely full or part time (i.e., telecommuting). Applicants must have a home or alternate workspace they can effectively complete their work from during regularly scheduled hours.
