About JDC:

JDC is a non-profit organization that provides free legal services to low-income and indigent San Francisco residents through staff and volunteer based services. Each year more than 1,900 volunteer attorneys, interpreters, law students and college students work with JDC staff to serve nearly 8,500 indigent clients. JDC’s holistic advocacy approach seeks to address the social service needs of clients in addition to their legal needs.

About the Job:

JDC’s Landlord-Tenant Project defends low-income tenants from eviction through both staff attorney representation and leveraging volunteer resources. We help tenants by taking on their cases full-scope, and by representing them limited-scope in settlement conferences and depositions. The Supervising Attorney trains lawyers of all backgrounds and experience levels on essential landlord-tenant law, then supports and mentors them through full-scope representation in unlawful detainer cases. The Supervising Attorney also oversees JDC’s settlement conference clinics, giving regular 2-hour trainings, and guiding and supervising volunteers two afternoons a week at the San Francisco Superior Court.  The Supervising Attorney will also train and support at least one JDC staff attorney who defends low-income tenants in eviction cases.
