Education and Outreach Coordinator

The Lexington Fair Housing Council is seeking a full-time Education and Outreach Coordinator in Louisville, KY. The Coordinator will lead our fair housing outreach activities in Louisville (and adjacent areas) by developing alliances with community and social service groups in the city.

The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to cultivate relationships with diverse community groups, some of whom might even have opposite interests. This position will be an excellent opportunity to engage with community stakeholders, nonprofit leaders, civil rights advocates, and housing providers in order to strengthen fair housing in Louisville. Please note: this position is a one-year that has the possibility, but not guarantee, of being renewed.

About Lexington Fair Housing Council

The Lexington Fair Housing Council is a state-wide civil rights organization whose mission is to fight housing discrimination of all forms and against all persons because of race, skin color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, and familial status. We provide everything from direct legal representation to mediation and advocacy to assist clients in obtaining or maintaining housing, and we have built a reputation for being a leading voice in housing law in Kentucky.

Job Responsibilities

The Education and Outreach Coordinator, who will be based in Louisville and reports directly to the assistant director, will be responsible for the following:

  • Building and developing strategic relationships with Louisville nonprofits, community groups, and other organizations that will help further our work in the area
  • Coordinate fair housing workshops with a focus on reaching groups legally protected against housing discrimination
  • Deliver fair housing compliance trainings to Louisville-based landlords or property management companies
  • Provide referral services to victims of housing discrimination to LFHC intake staff

Qualifications

We’re seeking candidates with expertise in relationship building, are able to take the lead on a task, and have superb communication abilities. You should have:

  • Outstanding communication skills in both written and spoken forms
  • The ability to not just make a contact with another person or organization, but to truly grow a strong working relationship with them
  • Demonstrated experience with leading in-person and virtual presentations
  • Familiarity with technology/productivity tools (the main apps we use are Google for Nonprofits, Microsoft Office, Zoom, Slack)

The following assets will be big pluses but are not required:

  • Prior experience working with different Louisville-based service providers
  • Knowledge about civil rights law, housing law, fair housing law, and general policy around housing
  • Being bilingual in Spanish and English (this is a big, big plus)
  • Experience with recording podcasts

The Lexington Fair Housing Council’s main office is in Lexington, so this will be a remote position. Because this is a remote position, you must have a strong, reliable internet connection (for video calls and virtual presentations).
