Position Description

The Les Turner ALS Foundation is seeking a full-time Communications and Events Associate to join our dynamic team of professionals in our Chicagoland office based in Skokie, IL. We seek a passionate self-starter who can enhance and energize our online community.

The Communications and Events Associate will play an integral role as part of a team of highly motivated and collaborative individuals who are committed to supporting people living with ALS and their families and seeing a world free of ALS.

In this position, you will be given the opportunity to support existing marketing initiatives and fundraising events, primarily in the areas of digital communications and online fundraising. You will collaborate with other members of the Communications and Marketing team and Development team to achieve awareness and marketing outreach goals for events.

Our ideal candidate has experience using Blackbaud donor software, especially Luminate Online, and experience building websites, event microsites, using email and enewsletter templates, Content Management Systems like WordPress, and basic graphic design experience with Adobe software or websites such as Canva; candidate should be creative, organized, strategic and collaborative, thrives on challenges and wants to make a difference in the Chicagoland ALS community.

Duties and Responsibilities

 Marketing & Communications

Build and maintain TeamRaiser, donation, survey and event microsites in Luminate Online

Set up e-communication pieces (eblasts, e-newsletters) for all fundraising events within Luminate Online for targeted distribution

Develop and implement coaching emails for TeamRaiser events

Writes and develops social media posts for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn channels

Execute design and implement changes to the organization’s website to support the needs of multiple types of end-users

Use the method of storytelling to write compelling articles, blog posts and feature stories        

Graphic design duties as assigned

Execute online fundraising initiatives (ex. Giving Tuesday,)

Fundraising & Events

In concert with the Events Manager, coordinate logistical elements and encourage participant and team fundraising for the Foundation’s signature events: Hope Through Caring Gala, Tag Days, Strike Out ALS 5k and 1 Mile Run, Walk & Roll, ALS Walk for Life, and Team Race for ALS

Represent the Foundation at events (some of which are evenings and weekends) throughout the year (virtually or in person)

Oversee ALS Awareness Month fundraising/awareness initiatives, including Tag Days and work in collaboration with the Communications & Marketing Team on accompanying communication deliverables and overall planning, rollout and execution of the campaign

Oversee Foundation’s third-party fundraising program, Fundraise Your Way

Assist with volunteer recruitment and training for Foundation signature events

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university     

Minimum of 1-3 years of event / fundraising and / or marketing/communications experience in a professional setting; non-profit experience strongly preferred

Must have valid driver’s license and a car

Must possess ability to interact professionally with donors, visitors, vendors and internal staff

Be passionate about and comfortable working with people and families affected by ALS

 Demonstrated Competencies

Working knowledge of Blackbaud products, particularly Luminate Online and Raiser’s Edge a plus

Solid knowledge of social media sites and related marketing tools

Experience in email marketing, digital marketing and content management system (Wordpress)

Design experience a plus

Strong writing skills and attention to detail

Basic HTML coding experience a plus

Ability to manage multiple projects at once

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Strong Word and Excel skills are required

Flexibility to attend evening and/or weekend meetings and/or events
