Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Director leads and oversees the delivery of all program services for Ceres Community Project. This position is a member of the senior leadership team and works closely with program management staff across all sites to strengthen our ability to refine and deliver meaningful and effective programs for our clients, youth and community. This position is also responsible for the development, deployment and ongoing management of systems and processes designed to measure, analyze and evaluate our services across the organization. This role offers the chance for a talented and experienced individual to provide innovative leadership in shaping the future of Ceres Community Project and to continue our efforts in leading a national conversation around the vital connection between whole organic food, strong social connections and health.

Key responsibilities for this position include strategic leadership, program management, developing and managing staff and teams, overseeing youth development best practices, and conducting measurement and evaluation across all programs. The ideal candidate will bring professional experience having overseen multiple programs in a human services environment and have exceptional skills in managing and developing individuals and teams. The Program Director is a self-starter, who proactively identifies and resolves issues, and is able to lead group processes that result in positive and collaborative problem solving.


•      In partnership with the Executive Director, Senior Leadership Team, and program management staff, provide strategic direction on all of Ceres Community Project’s programs and services to ensure a seamless, integrated vision of program design, delivery and measurement.

•      Meet annual program goals for client services, youth development, and community nutrition education.

•      Motivate and lead an existing team, provide supervision, mentoring and professional development opportunities; promote an atmosphere of excellence in service delivery.

•      Provide guidance and oversight on best practices for youth development.

•      Oversee performance measurement and management systems that support continuous improvement of service execution and delivery, including activities such as data collection, analysis and reporting.

•      Partner with database provider and Director of Operations to develop user requirements and ensure employees at all levels of the organization have the systems and information they need to perform their jobs at the highest capacity.

•      In collaboration with program staff, manage overall program budgets, including adherence to specific requirements of grants and funding agencies; provide necessary data and stories to Development staff to support grant applications and reporting.

•      Design and conduct trainings around a variety of topics, including, but not limited to: youth development, program planning and deployment, service delivery, and evaluation.

•      As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, provide strategic leadership and set the organizations evaluation priorities and agenda to support the creation and use of data to improve service delivery and drive strategic decision making.

•      Develop effective working partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders in the broader community including health care referral partners, colleague organizations, relevant County departments, funding sources, community partners, volunteers and clients.


•      A minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in program design, management, and evaluation in a human services setting, with strategic leadership responsibility for a multi-program department during a time of programmatic growth.

•      Significant staff management and development experience; ability to effectively manage direct reports to deliver high quality services through effective training and onboarding as well as ongoing coaching and mentoring.

o  Highly developed communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to represent the organization across a wide range of external stakeholders and constituencies.

o  Ability to supervise or lead a team, including exceptional coaching, facilitation and mediation skills; ability to coach and counsel employees and volunteers.

o  Ability to develop others by determining paths for career development and constructively delivering direct feedback to direct reports, colleagues and volunteers.

•      Experience creating and refining business processes and unifying standards and best practices across a diverse organization, while respecting the distinct needs of individuals and groups.

o  Experience with program evaluation and measurement and the use of program evaluation data to support continuous improvement.

•      Demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.

•      A strong passion for the mission and vision of Ceres Community Project.

•      Bachelor’s degree


•      Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred.

•      Experience working as a member of a senior team to support overall organizational and strategic planning and management.

Supervision: The Program Director directly manages the Client Program Manager, Executive Chef, Santa Rosa & Marin Program Manager, Youth Program Manager, and Nutrition Program Manager, and has a total of fourteen staff reporting.

Work environment: The position is based in Sebastopol but requires travel to all program sites in Sonoma and Marin counties. Occasional nights and weekends.
