SUMMARY:

The Association of Farmworker Opportunity Programs (AFOP) is a non-profit, national federation of 52 non-profit and public agencies that provide training and employment services to migrant and seasonal farmworkers. AFOP and its member organizations serve farmworkers through the U.S. Department of Labor's National Farmworker Jobs Program, which is operated in 49 states and Puerto Rico. AFOP's mission is to improve the quality of life for migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families by providing advocacy for the member organizations that serve them.


AFOP’s Health & Safety Programs is searching for a talented bilingual (English/Spanish) professional with a very creative and positive mindset to fill the position of Communication Coordinator.


  • Position:  Communication Coordinator

  • Salary: $18.00 per hour
  • Travel:  0-10%


 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute social media campaign across social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Increase number of followers on social media platforms
  • Coordinate, edit, and increase traffic to our Health & Safety Blog
  • Develop local and national media/press relationships
  • Develop, edit and distribute annual publication
  • Develop training materials for trainers (as necessary)
  • Develop low literacy take-home materials for ag workers (as necessary)
  • Translate materials into English/Spanish (important /as needed)
  • Help coordinate our national special events (NFAW, Healthy Pregnancy Month & HSPTM)
  • Provide training to trainers on-site or via webinar (occasionally or as needed)
  • Attend local events related to farmworker issues
  • All other duties as assigned or required



AFOP Responsibilities:

  • Represent AFOP among the farmworker advocacy community
  • Respond to AFOP members’ needs and requests
  • Contribute to the AFOP National Conference and all other AFOP-sponsored events
  • Contribute to AFOP publications and social media outlets
  • Helps coordinate activities with AFOP’s Communication Specialist and communication’s plan
  • All other duties as assigned or required



Individual must possess experience:

  • Managing social media campaigns across social media platforms
  • Development of material in a low-literacy, creative and artistic format
  • Designing captivating flyers, posters, publications and handouts
  • Coordinating national events
  • Translating English to Spanish and Spanish to English

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of demonstrated success in a communications role
  • Minimum an Associate in Communications or Public Relations - preferred Bachelor's degree
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English and Spanish)
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge and management of major social media platforms
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel


Others:

  • Demonstrate commitment to social justice issues
  • Experience working with the farmworker community is a plus
  • Knowing Haitian-Creole and/or Mixteco is a plus

Benefits

This is a part-time position that will pay $18.00 per hour for 24 hours a week. The hours can be distributed in accordance to candidates availability.
