Roles and Responsibilities: The Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence works to prevent domestic violence in Asian families and communities. The Housing Manager works closely with the ASAP Operations & Clinical Managers in maintaining the daily operations of the shelter, overseeing ATASK’s Transitional Housing program, providing direct services to families and children, coordinating the community-building program, and providing back-up to the ASAP Operations and Clinical Managers. ATASK’s Shelter provides shelter and advocacy services to survivors of domestic violence. It requires staffing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. This managerial position functions to ensure that the ATASK Shelter & Transitional Housing Programs operate as required and that the shelter and transitional housing clients are receiving the appropriate care. S/he will be part of the management team of ATASK.

Reports to: ASAP Operations Manager & Clinical Manager

Hours:

  • Full-time position
  • Generally Monday-Friday of various shifts: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Occasional after hours and weekend work as needed for coverage and management
  • Flexible schedule is expected

Duties include but are not limited to:

Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Role model and incorporate ATASK’s mission, values and professional behavior to staff
  • Oversee Shelter Coordinator, shelter staff, volunteers, interns, and overall functioning of shelter program
  • Maintain relationships with all shelter program partners including donors, children’s programs, volunteers, other DV/SA programs, food bank, and any other cooperating agencies
  • Oversee Transitional Housing Advocate and overall functioning of ATASK’s Transitional Housing program
  • Maintain relationships with all transitional housing program partners including housing authorities, landlords, rental agents, and any other cooperating agencies
  • Ensure ATASK’s clients are receiving appropriate care in Shelter and Transitional Housing Programs
  • Periodically assess programs and client needs, and make recommendations to update and/or add protocols accordingly
  • Delegate responsibilities to shelter staff as appropriate to maintain an effective and efficiently managed shelter for clients
  • Interview, hire and train new staff as needed
  • Follow and reinforce ATASK and shelter policies and procedures for staff and clients
  • Develop new policies and procedures as needed
  • Oversee the physical upkeep of the shelter including screening and interfacing with appropriate maintenance personnel & identifying and addressing upkeep, safety and cleaning needs
  • Provide 24-hour/day on call support to staff
  • Oversee program budgets

Direct Service Responsibilities:

  • Answer and ensure coverage of the 24-hour helpline and provide follow-up to callers as needed
  • Provide crisis intervention for hotline callers as needed.
  • Collaborate with external community crisis agencies to ensure caller/client safety
  • Ensure that the shelter has coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week 365 days a year and provide back up as needed
  • Provide crisis management and intervention as needed
  • Facilitate communal living and communication for a diverse population of residents
  • Ensure client confidentiality at all times
  • Oversee and maintain internal and external safety of the house (shoveling snow, monitoring door, etc…)
  • Effectively interface with emergency personnel (fire, police, medical, crisis)
  • Screen potential shelter clients and complete intake and assessments for incoming shelter clients
  • Meet regularly with residents for ongoing case management and advocacy
  • Collaborate with Primary Advocates on all shelter cases & participate in multidisciplinary team meetings for shelter clients as needed.
  • Facilitate move-in and move-outs for shelter and transitional housing clients in an efficient and sensitive manner that supports the clients and the programs
  • Pick up/deliver all donations related to shelter management such as monthly Food Bank deliveries, seasonal Cradles to Crayons, and any others as needed
  • Appropriately assess and manage crisis situations
  • Maintain shelter client case files in the database(s)
  • Develop and oversee the Children’s Program & Community Building Programs
  • Assess, determine and review all children client goals:
  • Ensure children are enrolled in daycare or receiving any other form of support needed, including parenting support for parents
  • Create monthly Community Building activities for clients & children

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a cooperative and collaborative relationship with the Operations Manager, Clinical Manager and the rest of ATASK’s management team and programs (such as ESOL/Life Skills, Legal, CBS, Finance, HR and others)
  • Conduct weekly meetings regarding shelter function, future developments, staff meetings, house meetings, community meetings, transitional housing, and trainings, etc.
  • Maintain awareness of other DV shelter and shelter/transitional housing models in the community
  • Build relationships with other shelters and transitional housing programs in MA. Be knowledgeable of other DV shelter programs in MA and within the United States
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with relevant community advocates and community service providers
  • Maintain and update relevant client statistics for reporting purposes
  • Complete & submit grant reports needed for shelter and transitional housing, and provide support to other ATASK Managers and ATASK grant application and reporting needs
  • Fill out incident reports as needed. Follow-up and conclude all incident reports
  • Maintain CPR and First Aid certification and ensure that program staff fulfills all training requirements including Domestic Violence, CPR, FA, food safety, and any other applicable trainings/certifications
  • Attend monthly managers meetings
  • Attend grant meetings as needed
  • Attend monthly all staff meetings

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related human services field
  • Bicultural and/or bilingual (English and Asian language) preferred; must be comfortable and competent working with Asian immigrant populations.
  • Knowledge of the causes and effects of domestic violence, related safety issues, ethnic diversity, gender analysis of domestic violence and multiple oppressions
  • Experience working in a residential facility and/or domestic violence survivors and their families
  • Intake, Assessment, case-planning/management skills and knowledge of community resources
  • Computer proficient, ability to utilize Microsoft office, basic Excel, e-mail as significant modes of communication and documentation
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to function independently, as part of a team and collaborate with staff and other agencies
  • Current driver’s license and access to vehicle required
  • Ability to pass a background check (CORI) required
  • Flexible evening schedule
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask & carry out project management
  • Able to work as a team member and maintain a positive working relationship with shelter staff and CBS staff
  • Commitment to ATASK mission of the eradication of domestic violence and strengthening of Asian families and communities
