The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for establishing relationships that will help increase use of PPIL’s reproductive health services, consistent with the PPIL strategic plan and mission. The Community Engagement Coordinator will assure that PPIL is visible and credible within the community, providing education and information to promote reproductive health knowledge, and increase interest in PPIL services.

Essential Functions:

• Relationship management. Identify, develop, and maintain key relationships to promote PPIL and its services--with essential community entities such as schools, churches, coalitions, service providers, community-based organizations, health care providers, and managed care organizations. Reach out to populations with unmet need for reproductive health services in line with PPIL’s mission and values. Represent PPIL at various speaking engagements including, but not limited to, rallies, workshops, and fundraisers.

Work with health center managers and staff to develop creative mechanisms for encouraging community member access, such as helping to organize transportation, or establishing blocks of appointments for specific groups. Collaborate with health center managers to create health center open houses with community agencies and provide health center tours as needed.

• Community education. Implement reproductive health educational programs in the community, in coordination with PPIL education program leadership, to increase knowledge of sexual health and to interest audiences in follow-up services. Keep current on reproductive health information, including specific health education strategies, and participate in trainings.

Other Functions:

• Advocacy. In coordination with the policy team and as requested, help keep local elected officials apprised of key PPIL accomplishments, and convey key policy and advocacy messages in community settings.

• Volunteers. Support the recruitment and mobilization of volunteers as needed to help assure the success of PPIL’s outreach, education, patient experience, grassroots organizing and other volunteer activities. Facilitate volunteer and escort orientations, supervise, and work with volunteers as needed.
