Communications Associate / Manager

L4GG is excited to hire a self-motivated Communications Associate or a Communications Manager who will work on two strategic initiatives: 1) managing our media relations efforts; and 2) producing high-quality content that drives new supporters, engages our broader L4GG community, and builds brand recognition.

This person will create informative content, press releases, blog posts, and digital content to share our organization’s mission, programs, and impact. The ideal candidate will be an excellent storyteller, who can write quality content efficiently and has engaging presentation and organizational skills. This position reports to the VP, Development and Communications. 

Please note that we welcome applicants for both the Associate or the Manager positions, based on the qualifications outlined below. We are eager to speak to candidates at both levels and are hiring immediately. 

Media/Public Relations Responsibilities:

  • Create attention-grabbing press releases, press kits, e-newsletters, and related marketing materials.
  • Optimize the press section of the website and keep it up to date. 
  • Build strong media relationships; create and maintain press lists.
  • Actively and strategically pitch L4GG’s work and thought leadership to the media.
  • Prepare detailed media activity reports.

Storytelling/Communications Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies that build loyalty, brand awareness, and donor/community satisfaction.
  • Translate the work of our programs into compelling narratives for a variety of audiences.
  • Develop digital and social media content, with a priority of developing email and website content to promote L4GG’s community-building, advocacy, and fundraising efforts.
  • Create communication and marketing strategies for new programs, advocacy and fundraising campaigns, events, and future L4GG initiatives. 
  • Actively track success of outreach efforts and learn iteratively from different attempts.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have top-notch interpersonal skills, judgment, and the ability to work, thrive, and produce content efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Must have access to a quiet workspace (home office or other space) with high-speed internet and the ability to take calls and/or video conferences during working hours.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • 3+ years’ experience in a similar role, such as: communications, journalism, marketing
  • Proven experience creating targeted content
  • Strong knowledge of communication practices and techniques
  • Understanding of brand standards and enforcement
  • Experience using Google G-Suite
  • Exceptional technology comfort and competence including willingness to embrace new tools and self-train using provided resources as needed
  • Impeccable attention to detail 
  • Strong ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and escalate issues to VP, Development and Communications

Desired qualifications include:

  • Personal network of media contacts 
  • Experience with L4GG’s programmatic issue areas
  • Experience with any or all of the following digital tools: Airtable, Action Network, Zapier, GrooveHQ, Salesforce
  • Spanish language skills would be a plus, but not required

Additional Qualifications for the Manager position:

  • To be hired at the Manager level, applicants should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant direct experience in public relations and/or communications.
