 PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Stewardship officer will support strategic growth in the planned giving program in collaboration with the Senior Director, development colleagues, and regional partners. This role will be responsible for planned giving donor retention by creating a strategy to expand stewardship of planned giving donors and acting as the primary point of contact for Legacy Society members. The Stewardship Officer will build partnerships with national and regional development staff to identify and create joint stewardship opportunities. Manage the Livingston Legacy Society membership to enhance their donor experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage portfolio of all Livingston Legacy Society members; provides a personal point of contact.
• Design, implement, and execute an annual stewardship strategy, work plan and budget to meet the goals of the Planned Giving stewardship program and organization.
• In partnership with director and marketing consultants, create comprehensive stewardship program that includes portfolio-level marketing outreach, high-touch individual strategies, and prioritization for personal engagement.
• Participate in recurring marketing meetings.
• Build ongoing relationships with Livingston Legacy Society members through email, phone calls, virtual and/or in person visits as indicated by donor needs/wishes.
• Create or identify Livingston Legacy Society recognition opportunities.
• Conduct and manage Livingston Legacy Society stewardship in person and virtual events, across several sectors within the organization to provide opportunities for donors to engage and feel connected to the mission.
• Conduct capacity research to identify Livingston Legacy Society members who may be candidates for larger outright gifts.
• Partner with major gift officers to determine joint stewardship plan and management hierarchy for Livingston Legacy Society members who are also major donors or major donor prospects.
• Explore opportunities to solicit repeat legacy gifts or to assist donors in updating their plans.
• Manage gift acknowledgement process for new Livingston Legacy Society members.
• May be assigned qualified leads who need and have requested personal assistance to finalize their gifts.

Travel:

• Some nationwide travel required. 

Desired Skills: 

• Enthusiasm for creating close donor relationships and strong comfort level with engaging older donors.
• Familiarity with bequests, beneficiary designations, and similar legacy gifts.
• Ability to communicate confidently and effectively with coworkers, program leaders, donors, and prospects; must have especially strong written, verbal and listening skills.  
• Efficient and effective research skills that lead to strategic actions for appropriate treatment of donors.
• Strong planning skills and ability to prioritize tasks to achieve goals in a timely manner.
• Ability to prioritize a large donor portfolio effectively.
• Experience working in a non-profit institution of comparable complexity and scale is preferred, as is experience working with volunteers and board leadership.

Work Experience:

• Minimum of five years relevant professional experience in planned giving or equivalent experience.

 Education:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
