Full Time Contract
The UN World Food Programme (WFP) is the frontline humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide. On average, WFP reaches more than 80 million people with food assistance in 75 countries. Around 14,000 people work for the organization, most of them in remote areas, directly serving the hungry poor. In Iraq, WFP assists conflict-affected families in every corner of the country. By providing food, cash and vouchers to displaced Iraqis and Syrian refugees, WFP is helping to save lives and livelihoods.
In collaboration with the WFP Innovation Accelerator, the Iraq Country Office has launched a digital livelihoods program connecting the most vulnerable refugees and host communities to income generating opportunities through remote online freelancing work.
Jobholders are expected to demonstrate responsibility and initiative to respond independently to various queries with only general guidance. There is a requirement to use judgment in dealing with unforeseen operational problems on a daily basis
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
The Project Assistant, reporting to the Emergency Coordinator as well as the Tech for Food Operations lead, will work on the following topics:
Support the scale up and expansion efforts of Tech For Food in Iraq
Support the day-to day-management of the projected including as related to WFP processes, i.e. Cash-based transfers, Monitoring and Evaluation etc.
Support the Innovation Accelerator efforts of testing and implementing new innovations and partnerships
1. Support the scale up and expansion efforts of Tech For Food in Iraq:
Conduct scouting missions to various areas of Iraq and collect insights and information to support the roll out of Tech for Food in these areas
Liaise with local WFP teams to understand the support they would need to implement the project
Liaise with local governmental and humanitarian organizations as well as the private sector for necessary partnerships and cooperation measures to allow the project to grow
Support existing cooperating partners in their efforts of outreach to beneficiaries and implementation
Collect and keep track of best practises related to original setup activities and apply them to any new location being set-up
Stay informed on any socio-political development in Iraq and anticipate any issues that could affect the implementation of the project
2. Support the day-to day-management of the projected including as related to WFP processes, i.e. Cash-based transfers, Monitoring and Evaluation etc.
Take note of all processes observed and procedures used in the application of the project and ensure compliance across locations
Liaise with sub office teams to ensure continued alignment and achievement of milestones
Liaise with all units for any support needed as instructed by Project manager
3. Support the project manager and the Innovation Accelerator efforts of testing and implementing new innovations and partnerships
Support the testing of new ideas and concepts
Contribute to the ideation process by collecting interesting insights and research from the field
Continuously evaluate the activities and setup and propose creative ways to efficiently grow the project and reach the set goals
4. Any other tasks as required
Level of Language Proficiency
High proficiency in written and spoken Arabic and English, knowledge of Kurdish or an additional UN language is a plus
