DCYOP seeks an Administrative Assistant to provide administrative and financial support to DCYOP.  

Full- time, non-exempt 

Reports to the Assistant Director of Operations


Must live in the DMV region by first day of employment as DCYOP has a hybrid office.


Who We Are

The DC Youth Orchestra Program (DCYOP) is the region’s leading ensemble-based music education program for students ages 4-18.  With the mission “music for young people; achievement for life!” DCYOP has fostered musical development and changed the lives of 60,000+ youth since 1960. 

 

DCYOP students learn and grow through group lessons, sectionals, and ensemble rehearsals.  Since March 2020, DCYOP has been operating remotely and programming is conducted both virtually and as of April 2021, in-person and outside. DCYOP is proud to be an inclusive organization and values the diversity of its student body: DCYOP’s students represent 250 different schools, 100 unique ZIP codes, and a range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. DCYOP’s excellence has been recognized at local, national, and international levels. Achievements include touring 23 countries, performances for U.S. presidents and diplomats and collaborations with esteemed musicians like Yo-Yo Ma and Gustavo Dudamel. Honors include the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award (known as the Coming Up Taller awards) and the Mayor’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Arts Education.  

 

The Administrative Assistant will join a passionate team in an exciting period of capacity building and expansion. In the next five years, DCYOP will become a national thought leader by using music as a tool to educate and empower children from all communities. The Administrative Assistant will have excellent organizational skills, high proficiency in scheduling and managing details, be able to adapt to changing priorities, and represent DCYOP in a professional manner. The Administrative Assistant is a full-time, hourly position eligible for overtime.


What you will Do

·      Responsible for daily office operations including mailing system, merchandise and supply 

inventory & ordering, and repair work orders 

·      Respond to general inquiries, manage info@dcyop.org account and delegate email and phone calls as appropriate

·      Input accounts payable into finance accounting software 

·      Reconcile credit card transactions monthly

·      Maintain finance and administrative files and archiving

·      Support DCYOP hiring process by posting jobs on hiring websites, processing applications and email correspondence

·      Complete enrollment paperwork for all new staff members and faculty members

·      Schedule staff meetings, draft agendas, take notes and disseminate action items 

·      Manage staff and program calendars

·      Reach out to concert venues for facility use inquiries

·      Help with set up and take down on Saturday programming 

·      Support the Assistant Director of Operations in effort to improve efficiency of DCYOP operations

·      Provide support to the Executive Director as needed 

·      Work week during September - June Tuesday- Saturday and during July and August is Monday- Friday

·      Perform other duties as assigned

·      Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Mac OS

·      1 year+ of relevant work experience

Benefits

This is a full-time position that starts at $19.10/hour and is eligible for overtime. DCYOP offers employer-paid health coverage; cell phone reimbursement; short and long-term disability insurance; life insurance; and a generous paid-time-off policy with up to three weeks of vacation. One time allowance for home office setup. Also, all employees have a company-wide vacation over the winter holidays.
