Reports to:  Associate Director, Facilities Management  

  

Department: Operations; Facilities Management                           


PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Security Guard will be able to manage the surveillance of our premises and ensure the protection of our staff and visitors. They will be responsible for detecting any suspicious behavior and preventing vandalism, thefts or other criminal behavior. The ideal candidate will demonstrate respect and authority, as well as possess a high level of observation. The goal is to help the organization in maintaining excellent working conditions, by keeping our facilities safe and problem-free.


The candidate must be detail-oriented, resourceful and organized, and will be accountable for maintaining a professional work environment. This individual will work collaboratively across all departments within the agency including but not limited to: Domestic and International Adoption, the Modern Family Center, Marketing and Communications, Development, Operations (Finance, Legal), and Human Resources. This individual must be available to work evenings and some weekends.  


The right candidate will have:  

•      Excellent surveillance and observation skills

•      Training in self-defense prior to hire date


KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS


Risk Management prevention:   

a.    Provides a safe working environment:   

•         Ensures the security, safety and well-being of all personnel, visitors, and the building

•         Confirms all appointments with staff upon the arrival of a client

•         Enforces that all security protocols are followed by staff members and reports any breaches

•         Checks security cameras periodically to identify disruptions or unlawful acts

•         Submit reports of daily surveillance activity and important occurrences

•         Apprehend and detain perpetrators before the arrival of the authorities

•         Patrol premises regularly to maintain order and establish presence

•         Respond to alarms by investigating and assessing the situation

•         Immediately responds to emergencies and provides necessary assistance

•         Follows procedure for fire prevention, building patrol, and accident investigations

•         Responsible for preventing overcrowding in the elevator, lobby, and gathering spaces

•         Monitors and report safety conditions in and around the building

•         Provides escort assistance in the building upon request

•         Contacts staff members when food deliveries arrive in the lobby

•         Secures all exits, doors, windows, and turns off the lights at the end of the business day

•         Other related duties


b.    Mail handling and processing:  

•         Receives and delivers packages via UPS, FedEx and DHL  

•         Inspects all packages before distribution within the building


Administration:   

•      Assists the Operations Department with event coordination   

•      Uploads daily sign-in sheets and visitor photos to the proper location

•      Collects payments from visitors if required

•      Maintains a professional relationship with vendors and clients 

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

•      NYS Security License

•      1-2 years of experience as a licensed security guard in New York state

•      High School diploma or GED

  

TECHNICAL SKILLS

•      MS Office – proficient in Outlook, Excel, and Word

•      High proficiency with a tablet/IPAD
