Beyond Literacy (BeLit)  is a non-profit adult education agency dedicated to providing a range of literacy services, including reading, writing, math, life and work skills, to help a diverse population of students/learners meet their needs and achieve their personal and employment-related goals.

Beyond Literacy follows all CDC, City and State health and safety guidelines to protect staff and students from COVID 19 infection. Currently classes are offered in a hybrid (in-person & remote) and remote formats. Employees work in person 2-3 days per week and the other days remotely.

Employees must provide proof of full vaccination status by October 29, 2021. 

Adult Secondary Education (ASE) Instructor – Part-Time

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Education, the ASE Instructor serves as a member of the Program/Education Team. This is a direct service position that involves developing, adapting and delivering instruction that is aligned to the College and Career Readiness Standards and prepares individuals for success on the high school equivalency exam, in postsecondary education, and/or in their careers. The Instructor will help students improve their academic skills in math, reading, science and/or social studies, prepare to pass the high school equivalency subject tests, and advance to postsecondary education and/or employment. Position requires remote evening availability 1-2 nights per week.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning & Instruction

1.      Review student data to prepare lessons targeting identified instructional needs.

2.      Instruct students at various educational functioning levels (EFL) in assigned subject area (science, math, reasoning through language arts, social studies).

3.      Integrate technology and supplemental activities into classroom instruction.

4.      Monitor student progress using formal and informal assessments.

5.      Prepare progress reports and learning plans for all students after summative assessments.

Data Tracking & Recording

1.      Maintain accurate and timely attendance and other records, e.g., daily attendance sign-ins, weekly attendance entry, reporting of core and secondary goals.

2.      Maintain complete, accurate and secure student files.

Professional Development & Staff Meetings

1.      Engage in job-embedded professional development to improve student outcomes.

2.      Attend required assessment training and refresher courses.

3.      Actively participate in staff, program and team meetings.  

QUALIFICATIONS

·       Bachelor’s degree required; Major in math, science or history preferred.

·       Minimum of one-year classroom teaching experience required;  experience in adult or alternative education preferred.

·       Experience instructing using remote platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams) highly desirable.

·       Knowledge of College and Career Readiness Standards, and standards-based lesson planning

·       Experience with Access, e-Data, LACES or using Excel as a data management system.

·       Demonstrated ability to support the use of a variety of technology & courseware in the classroom, such as IXL, Essential Education or Khan Academy.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to work as a member of a team and maintain a student-focused, solutions-oriented outlook.
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations and develop positive relationships with students, colleagues and partners in the field.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite; experience using Microsoft Office 365/SharePoint a plus.

Salary

USD $21,000 - USD $32,000

Salary level $20 - $25 per hour depending on experience, education and certifications.
