BELLEVUE JUVENILE JUSTICE MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE 

MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIANS (PSYCHOLOGISTS, LMHC, AND SOCIAL WORKERS)

 

OVERVIEW: 

The mission of the Bellevue Juvenile Justice Mental Health Service at Department of Youth and Family Justice (DYFJ) detention facilities is to effectively identify youth in need of mental health services during their incarceration, provide quality individual and group interventions through an adolescent mental health treatment model, and ensure the continuation of mental health services upon release to the community through effective discharge planning. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The clinician will be a member of a fully integrated mental health team at Horizon (Bronx) and Crossroads (Brooklyn) Juvenile Center that incorporates NYU Langone/Bellevue Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Work, and Creative Art Therapy. The clinician will provide mental health screening, individual testing and evaluations, and individual, group, and family interventions. Another responsibility will be discharge planning, including referring youth to community mental health treatment resources and interfacing with ACS Case Management and the NYC Department of Education. Clinicians will assist and guide detention and contracted agency staff in providing trauma-informed care for youth in detention.  

 

They will additionally attend integrated daily clinical rounds, will regularly consult with the Bellevue providers, and will escalate care to when clinically indicated. BJJMHS clinicians provide services in the Secure Detention setting seven days a week with rotating weekend and holiday coverage. They also provide services in the Non-Secure Detention school settings on schooldays.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW), or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with valid licenses issued by the New York State Education Department. 
  • Experience working in adolescent residential, correctional, outpatient, inpatient, or other juvenile justice settings preferred.
