Job Summary

The Manager, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MMEL) will support evaluation and learning for ClimateWorks itself and support learning for other foundations and partners we work with in close collaboration with the Director, Evaluation and Learning. The MMEL will support the Director to manage evaluations, design and facilitate learning within ClimateWorks and with partners, conduct data analysis, prepare data visuals and brief reports, and communicate results and learning within and beyond ClimateWorks. The MMEL will assist in the design and use of outcomes and indictors to support adaptive management and to demonstrate progress and results across the organization. The MMEL will also support staff to enhance our work on equity and racial, social and environmental justice. While some of the work will include day-to-day management and logistics and some administrative tasks, it will also include primary responsibility for some individual workstreams.

Essential Tasks 

Contributing to learning across ClimateWorks and the climate funder ecosystem

  • Provide thought partnership for the design of new learning work
  • Conduct data analysis
  • Develop and review report-outs, including memos, figures, slide decks and other communications products
  • Facilitate and support emergent learning

Supporting management of on-going and new evaluations and other learning work

  • Provide administrative and other support to management of evaluation and learning projects, including project management for planning, timelines and logistics; keeping inputs from a variety of stakeholders on track; supporting contracting of consultants; arranging interviews and meetings; etc.
  • Recruit evaluation and learning consultants
  • Manage evaluation and learning projects, including managing consultants
  • Provide clear feedback on draft reports, memos, slide decks, and other items produced by others

Demonstrating progress and results

•        Support collaborative design and use of theories of change and results frameworks

•        Support collaborative design and use of quantitative and qualitative outcomes and indicators to track progress and demonstrate results

•        Support proposal design, including working with staff on the above

•        Support evidence-based adaptive management, decision-making, and program design

•        Support reporting on grants

  • Facilitating learning: Design and support in-person and virtual meetings and workshops, using adult learning methods
  • Supporting work on equity and justice: Support deepening incorporation of diversity, equity and inclusion and racial, social and environmental justice approaches and metrics into ClimateWorks’ work
  • Supporting communication: Draft or produce reports, memos, slide decks and other materials to communicate with a variety of stakeholders
  • Other tasks and workstreams based on the MMELs skills and ClimateWorks’ needs

Required Qualifications

Must Have

  • Skills and Experience
  • Undergraduate degree required
  • 5-7 years of relevant, professional experience focused on monitoring, evaluation, and learning
  • Experience working in climate change, public policy, international development, and/or racial and social justice in philanthropic, NGO, coalition, legislative or advocacy communities
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative data gathering and analysis skills, including survey design
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, excellent attention to detail and ability to set priorities and complete projects in a timely manner
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communications skills
  • Strong facilitation, interpersonal, intercultural and team building skills
  • Ability and willingness to do the day to day administrative aspects of the role
  • High levels of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Nice to Have

  • Advanced degree strongly preferred—with an educational background in evaluation, social science, research methods, environmental sciences, and/or public policy desired.
  • Experience and comfort working in a highly collaborative and deadline-driven professional environment
  • Skilled in the use of data visualization approaches and tools
  • Experience working in service to broad range of clients and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with philanthropic giving and with emergent learning

Compensation

ClimateWorks offers an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience (geographic differential may apply—if applicable).

Location

ClimateWorks Foundation is based in the San Francisco Financial District. Our offices are closed due to Covid-19, and employees are working from home. We anticipate transitioning back to in-person work in our office in line with health and safety guidelines sometime in the second half of 2021.
