JOB SUMMARY

The Development Director is responsible for executing the organization’s development plan, acquiring major gifts, cultivating donors, grant writing, and overseeing special fundraising events towards a goal of $900,000 in annual contributed income. The Development Director will be skilled at building relationships with CRT’s patrons and donors, as well as integrating oneself into the culture of CRT and the community of Creede.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & TRANSFERABLE SKILLS:

  • 1-3 years Development experience in a non-profit (performing arts environment a plus), including involvement with donor cultivation, fundraising, individual giving, and grant writing.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with board members, donors, patrons, and funding institutions in person, by phone, and via email.
  • Ability to work independently, as a collaborative team member, and team leader.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (primarily Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Experience with Spektrix, or comparable donor / patron database system (Tessitura, TicketAgent, etc.) a plus.
  • Experience with Endowment and Capital Campaigns a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • English fluency required.
  • Spanish fluency a plus.
  • Ability to lift 10lbs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Development Plan, Major Gifts, Sponsorships, Grants, and Donor Cultivation:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive and measurable development plan that includes specific fundraising goals.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit prospective donors and show sponsors.
  • Maintain integrity, confidentiality, and sensitivity with CRT donors and audience.
  • Maintain giving and communication records for all donors, including distribution of donor benefits.
  • Work with the Managing Director to regularly reconcile development funds to the general ledger.
  • Oversee fundraising database and tracking systems.
  • Evaluate success of annual fundraising efforts and report to staff and Board.
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Board of Trustees Fund Development Committee.
  • Work collaboratively with the Producing Artistic Director and Board of Trustees on initiatives to increase CRT's Endowment Fund.
  • Collaborate with the Managing Director in the creation and forecasting of CRT’s annual Budget.

Grant Writing:

  • Identify and pursue potential grant opportunities based on the priorities of CRT.
  • Write grants, ensuring timely submission and reporting, that support all aspects of CRT’s programming.

PR and Communication:

  • Generate content for direct mail appeals, newsletters, and special event invitations.
  • Generate development content for CRT’s seasonal program, brochure, and other marketing materials as required.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing & Communications to integrate development content into the overall messaging and theme of the season.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing & Communications and/or outside vendors on the design, printing, and mailing of development materials.
  • Maintain development pages of CRT website.

Special Events:

  • Coordinate preview receptions, parties of note, and other fundraising special events in partnership with the Artistic and Production teams.
  • Coordinate the biannual Gala in partnership with the Producing Artistic Director, Director of Production, and the Gala Committee.
  • Attend, participate, and meaningfully engage with CRT’s donors and patrons at special events.

Commit to CRT’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Initiative:

  • Collaborate with the EDI Co-chair(s) to determine, create, and implement CRT’s ED&I priorities, initiatives, and values in every aspect of your department.
  • Be an active participant in formal trainings, the staff EDI book group, and other communal learning opportunities.
  • Participate in EDI task forces (hiring, artistic, etc.), when applicable.

Creede Repertory Theatre Team Member:

  • Serve as a member of the administrative team.
  • Attend special events, performances, company functions, publicity functions, and other events as required by CRT.
  • Participate in all staff, company, production, design, Board of Trustees, and/or assigned committee meetings as required by CRT.
  • Participate in the betterment of CRT’s facilities and buildings, as needed.
  • Contribute to the creation of a respectful and inclusive work environment.
  • Adhere to CRT’s community values of Artistry, Grit, Intentionality, and Community.
  • Engage meaningfully with the community of Creede, CO.
