Bridges Baltimore is committed to the long-term success of Baltimore City youth and to providing life-changing opportunities to independent school students. Our team of 13 serves approximately 500 people per year - 300 Baltimore City youth ages 9-23 and 200 independent school students. Our two sites, Bridges at St. Paul’s Schools (est. 1993) & Bridges at Gilman School (est. 2014), operate on a budget of $1.4mm. Watch a short Bridges video HERE.

The Opportunity

We are seeking one highly motivated professional to join our team as “Elementary/Middle School Program Director.” The holder of this role will manage, implement, and enhance our efforts targeting elementary and middle school students and families.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Summer Institute: Plan and serve as principal for the Elementary/Middle Summer Institute, including teacher & staff hiring, overseeing curriculum development, planning and managing field trips, coordinating with host school, and managing student participation. 
  • School Year Programming: Oversee successful implementation of all school-year programs for elementary and middle school students, including the elementary after-school program and middle school enrichment program. 
  • School Guidance: Guide 5th and 8th grade students & families through individualized school searches and admissions processes for middle and high school.
  • Student Support: Plan and oversee individualized support to help students find success in school and in Bridges, which commonly involves academic tutoring and coaching soft skills such as follow through and communication.
  • Volunteer Program: Oversee implementation of a successful high school volunteer program, including recruitment, training, hands-on learning experiences, and retention.
  • Collaboration & Supervision: Supervise the Elementary/Middle School Public Service Fellow and collaborate with program directors to ensure a seamless transition for students and families from one division to the next and consistent programming for students and volunteers at each site. 

Ideal Candidates

  • Youth Development: Understand how to meet students and families where they are and can serve as a guide to success through the elementary/middle school years.
  • Relationships: Form strong relationships with people regardless of background and can be effective working and communicating with families, students, teachers, volunteers, partners, staff, and host schools.
  • Project Management: Extraordinary organizational and project management skills and can manage overlapping timelines and projects effectively.
  • Technology: Comfortable using workplace technology including email, text, Microsoft suite, and adapting to other tools as needed.
  • Driving: The Elementary/Middle School Program Director will also need to drive a 14-passenger van (we will train you!)

Desired Background

  • Work experience: 5+ years in the field with track record of consistent success; time as a teacher, social worker, school administrator, and/or a related role; personnel management experience desired
  • Education: Undergraduate degree with a proven record of academic success

Role Details: Compensation, Supervision

  • Compensation: The salary for this full-time 12-month role is commensurate with experience. Full-time employees are eligible to participate in our comprehensive benefits program which includes, but is not limited to, medical, dental, vision, disability and 403(b). Other supplemental benefits included a lunch benefit, fitness center and tuition remission. 
  • Start Date: The role is set to begin on or about June 1, 2021.
  • Supervision: This role reports to a Senior Program Director.
  • Location: This role will be based at Bridges’ location at St. Paul’s Schools (Brooklandville, MD).
  • Hours: This role will follow typical business hours with occasional evenings & weekends.
