Engagement and Advocacy Intern

The World Justice Project's Engagement team is seeking a full-time summer intern at the WJP's office in Washington DC to begin in June 2021. (Note: This internship may change to a remote internship depending on pandemic related work from home orders.) The intern will work in collaboration with the WJP Engagement team to connect and build an engaged global network of policy-makers and activists to advance the rule of law through strategic partnerships, convenings, coordinated advocacy, and support for locally-led initiatives. Please note that this is a paid internship.

Responsibilities: The Engagement intern will report to the Engagement Director and Senior Program Associate. The intern will support the continued development and execution of the WJP's rule of law engagement strategy. The main responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:


Support the expansion of Engagement outreach and advocacy activities and the dissemination of WJP research and data to policy-makers, development agencies, rule of law implementers, and the broader rule of law movement including through the development of communications tools, lists, and forums to reach and engage these audiences;


Assist in the design and development of the 2022 World Justice Forum, the premier international event for the rule of law;


Support the continued development of the World Justice Challenge, a competition to identify, recognize, and promote good practices and successful solutions to improve the rule of law;


Conduct desk research to identify and verify leading grassroots civil society organizations in a variety of countries to support the development of the WJP Resource Hub, a directory of leading organizations advancing the rule of law worldwide; support the development of the Resource Hub into an interactive online community


Provide support for the cleaning and updating of WJP's Salesforce Customer Relations Database


Promote rule of law knowledge by supporting the publication of WJP blog posts, podcasts, newsletters, and other communication products; and


Provide administrative support to the Engagement team, as needed.



Qualifications: This position is open to current students (B.A. or M.A.) and recent graduates (B.A. or M.A.). The ideal candidate will have completed coursework in international affairs, social sciences, journalism, economics, policy studies, regional studies, or pre-law. Successful applicants will be bright, highly motivated individuals with a strong academic track record and an enthusiastic interest in rule of law. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and qualifications:


Understanding of rule of law issues in global contexts;


Superior research skills, sound analytical skills, and excellent attention to detail;


Excellent English writing, oral communications, and interpersonal skills;


Experience in digital communications and social media management;


Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) platforms such as Salesforce


The ability to work independently as well as in group settings, the ability to manage his or her own workload, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work under deadline pressure;


Experience working in a fast-paced environment;


Ability to speak and write in a language other than English (Encouraged)
