Business Analyst

What will you do all day?

As a member of the Technology Team, the Manager of Business Analysis will play a critical role in supporting designing and implementing technology to expand the delivery capabilities of NMSI. Specifically, this role will involve understanding our programs and their interactions with different teams in detail, using formal means of collecting comprehensive requirements for all teams, coordinating discussions that encourage thought partnerships across teams and coming up with business requirements that meet the current and the long-term needs of the organization. The Manager, Business Analysis reports to the Senior Manager, Applications Development. This full-time role can be based from a home office anywhere in the contiguous United States.  


What are the details? 

As a Manager of Business Analysis, you will work with the multi-functional team to collect and document requirements, and user stories, from the Business/Product Owners and Subject Matter Experts (SME) as well as any third-party stakeholders. We will look to you to lead requirements gathering sessions and assist in the prioritization of requirements to manage project scope and business needs. You will need to develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of all product features and the various system interdependencies that exist within projects.  


Ensuring the proper functioning of a product is a major component of this role. As part of the quality assurance responsibilities, you will aid in the creation and execution of strategic test plans to ensure the product is tested according to requirements and industry, and customer standards. You will be involved with a project from discovery through build, test and deployment. 

Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to: 

  • Document requirements (business, user, and software requirements; functional and non-functional) and establish traceability. 
  • Clearly and unambiguously articulate all requirements to the project team, ensuring their understanding in the execution of different phases of the program/project and that requirements are capable of being implemented and tested. 
  • Contribute to estimates of work and level of effort required to complete projects and features.
  • Play a critical communication role by interacting with the SME as well as with development and testing personnel.
  • Ensure that change control and change management procedures are followed. 
  • Perform critical analysis of business needs and develop recommendations and conclusions.
  • Manage the backlog of requirements and prioritize backlog requirements versus new requirements.
  • Contribute to Agile sprints with comprehensive user stories.
  • Engage internal stakeholders on the new and updated technology products, quality assurance best practices, and product testing. 
  • Create and review test cases/scenarios and processes, ensuring alignment with industry standards.
  • Lead and coordinate defect triage meetings. 
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with other team members and customers to expedite project delivery and improve product quality.
  • Other duties as assigned.  

What are we looking for? 

We are seeking candidates who are motivated by our mission and who will bring excellent analytic, project, and client management skills to our work. Successful candidates will be strong problem-solvers, independent and focused self-starters. They will have prior experience working with web-based applications and databases, writing SQL queries, and participating in the full software development cycle. Experience in an Agile environment is preferred.  

  • Education & Experience: You have a bachelor’s degree (IT-related degree preferred) and a minimum of 4 years of experience working in a business analysis role with responsibilities involving testing the end product. You know business analysis and quality assurance tools - JIRA, TFS, and VSTS are preferable.
  • Organized & Productive: You can work independently, but you also have excellent organizational and teamwork skill. You can identify and solve problems creatively and effectively. 
  • Effective Communicator: You have excellent verbal and written communication skills and have excellent attention to detail in writing business user stories and ensuring their implementation accuracy. 
  • Growth Mindset: You stay up to date with the latest BA and QA trends, techniques and technologies.
