The Community Faith and Justice Organizer is responsible for engaging a wide range of EBHO’s members in campaigns for housing justice. About a third of the Organizer’s time will be spent coordinating EBHO's Faith and Justice Committee, an initiative to broaden and deepen the engagement of faith-based organizations and leaders as well as other social justice advocates for affordable housing for the lowest income communities. The organizer will also help EBHO members and partners take a moral stand on other intersectional issues such as presence and services for unhoused individuals, those just leaving incarceration and recent immigrants, among others. Other responsibilities include working with our other organizers on outreach, recruitment, mobilization in our Resident and Commnity Organizing Program (RCOP). This Program focuses on leadership development of affordable housing resident members and brings residents with lived experience of housing instability into EBHO committees and campaigns. 


The goals of the Faith and Justice Committee and Resident Organizing programs are to advance housing justice and EBHO’s campaigns through: 1) Providing affordable housing education and technical assistance specifically tailored to faith groups; 2) Organizing strong local, regional and interfaith networks for affordable housing and creating linkages with other social justice issues and organizations such as economic, racial, and immigration justice; 3) Organizing faith-based organizations and leaders in affordable housing advocacy campaigns; 4) Fostering potential partnerships between faith-based organizations and non-profit housing developers and providers; 5) Building effective leadership and commitments to affordable housing within faith-based communities, 6)Engaging and supporting EBHO’s current resident leaders, 7) helping to expand EBHO’s resident organizing, 8) providing leadership and facilitation to EBHO’s Leadership Academy program, 9) connecting residents, faith leaders and other EBHO members together in powerful campaigns for housing justice in the East Bay. This is an excellent opportunity for a creative organizer with experience working with faith-based communities and a commitment to affordable housing. The Community Faith and Justice Organizer reports to the Program Director, with support from the Lead Organizer. 


Duties and responsibilities include: • Develop program goals and strategies based on EBHO’s work to date and best practices. • Develop and work with a Faith and Justice advisory committee. • Develop campaigns in partnership with EBHO’s Resident & Community Organizing staff. • Help to organize and facilitate Faith and Justice events, including our annual interfaith gathering. • Engage faith-based organizations and leaders, along with other social justice advocates, in affordable housing advocacy campaigns • Identify and develop leadership within a variety of faith-based organizations. • Foster partnerships between faith-based organizations and others in the affordable housing arena and across other social justice issues. • Provide educational trainings, lead workshops, connect members to other staff as needed, and serve as a resource. • Perform logistical and communications tasks necessary to support the program and the organization, including preparing email and newsletter updates, board reports,etc. • Represent EBHO at public forums, in front of local legislative bodies, and at community events and meetings. • Collaborate on EBHO’s campaigns, membership recruitment and engagement, education and organizing programs, and organizational development. • Assist with fundraising, grant writing and reporting related to the faith and justice or organizing programs as needed. • Engage with and support EBHO’s current resident leaders, and help to broaden EBHO’s resident organizing. • Provide facilitation as needed for EBHO’s Leadership Academy Program, in partnership with the Lead Organizer.  


Qualifications: • Minimum of three years experience working in community organizing or faith based/faith-rooted organizing, community development or a related field. • Familiarity with faith-based organization and non-profit organizations. • Demonstrated interest or experience in issues of affordable housing, homelessness, poverty, and/or community development. • Strong verbal and writing skills to communicate diplomatically and effectively. • Experience working with coalitions of diverse groups and demonstrated commitment to racial, ethnic, religious and economic diversity and social justice. • Comfort with building up a coalition across religious lines and an openness to developing cultural sensitivity in order to work with people from a broad range of faith traditions and cultures including non-monotheist faiths. • Relational, with an interest and excitement to get to know people and their interests and values. • Self-motivated, with the ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative and professional environment. • Strong facilitation skills a plus.
