 Development Manager

Classification: Full-time

Position Overview

The Development and Marketing Manager serves as Mercado Global’s lead development communications manager, connecting our community of supporters to the organization’s work and impact. The position reports into and works closely with the organization’s Director of Development. This role is responsible for helping meet annual fundraising benchmarks via marketing, appeals, social media, events, and direct solicitations.

Mercado Global seeks a Development and Marketing Manager who is enthusiastic about the opportunity to help expand a cutting-edge model for fighting poverty and empowering women in rural Latin America. They should have strong self- initiative and leadership capabilities, interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, experience in marketing and communications, and a passion for our mission and work.

This position provides fundraising and communications professionals with the opportunity to work with our network of donors, our talented team in Guatemala, and the Indigenous women we serve. This position is ideally based at our field office in Panajachel, Guatemala, but remote work is possible while travel restrictions are in place. This position reports directly to the Director of Development, who is based in New York City.

  • Develop and manage annual communications calendar,
  • Work closely with the leadership team to develop marketing strategies and plans for supporting both
  • development and e-commerce efforts,
  • Draft communications for donors and e-commerce including marketing materials, social media content, press
  • releases, donor reports, briefing docs, grant language, appeals, annual report, pitch decks, eblasts, website
  • content, etc.,
  • Draft communications on behalf of leadership team,
  • Manage press strategy and reach out regularly to contacts
  • Manage social media platforms,
  • Lead the creation of event themes and artwork in collaboration with designer,
  • Update the artisan and supporter story library.
  • Development Operations:
  • Supervise interns and workflow,
  • Maintain strong relationships with donors and update database with next steps, current contact information, and
  • donations,
  • Research institutional and individual donors,
  • Generate reports and track key development and marketing indicators.
  • Key Qualifications

Key Responsibilities Communications and Marketing:

● A bachelor's degree

● Experience in creating compelling marketing content and communications and/or serving on a successful development team.

● Demonstrated ability to move multiple projects forward simultaneously.

● Excellent planning, critical thinking, and organizational skills.

● Attention to detail and commitment to top-quality, self-driven work.

● Flexibility, drive, sense of humor, and desire to live outside the U.S.

● Ability to work in a team setting and communicate effectively. Must be able to receive and incorporate feedback.

● Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of SalesForce (or other CRM) and Klaviyo (or other e- communications platform) a plus.

● Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

● Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish a plus.

● Enthusiasm for Mercado Global's mission.
