In 2019, we embarked on an exciting, five-year initiative, Project WISE (WASH in Schools for Everyone), to reach every government school in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and Kolkata, India with improved water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure, WASH behavior change programs, and strengthened school-based menstrual health programs. This project will benefit 800,000 children by 2023.

The Opportunity

As a key member of the global management team, the CFO will join a team of collaborative leaders working to realize Splash’s singular mission. The current focus of the team is ensuring the successful completion of Project WISE, while defining the next phase of Splash’s strategy and building the organization in readiness for its implementation.

The CFO ensures that financial considerations are fully represented in decision-making at all levels, and maintains a global culture of finance. The role includes leadership of all financial, budget, audit, and compliance aspects of Splash’s global operations, and plays a critical role in business strategy, planning, and cross-functional processes.

The CFO reports to the Founder and CEO, leading a direct team of three including an FP&A Manager, Controller, and Accountant, and overseeing in-country finance teams. The position is truly global, requiring extensive coordination and communication across time zones, including international travel when that is feasible. The role additionally has a direct line of communication to the Treasurer, the Finance Committee and the Board.

Key Priorities and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

· Define the organization’s financial strategy, and communicate financial requirements and implications of business decisions to Leadership and Board of Directors

· Proactively conduct analyses to provide useful financial insights and recommendations that lead to better decisions by Leadership, both as a team and individually

· Serve as a thought partner to Leadership and management across all projects and programs

· Provide tailored guidance, mentorship and skills development to Finance team members, and other staff as appropriate, to maximize the effectiveness of Splash’s Finance function

Financial Planning and Management

· In partnership with the Chief Programs Officer, support business planning with sophisticated financial, revenue and pricing models

· Work closely with the Chief Development Officer to build accurate revenue forecasts and pipeline

· Build and lead the annual budgeting process; monitor revenue and expenses throughout the year to minimize actual vs. forecast variances

· Manage cash flow, and build unrestricted cash reserves

· Partner with the Treasurer and Board Finance Committee on budgets, analysis and actions

Business Operations, Systems and Governance

· Ensure that financial processes efficiently meet the needs of Splash’s programs and businesses while maintaining effective controls

· Oversee the approval and processing of revenue, expenses, the general ledger, account maintenance and financial data entry

· Ensure successful annual independent audits in the US and other countries, including preparation, support and coordination

· Develop systems and processes for grant reporting, cost accounting, and other management reports and accounts

· Drive continuous improvement in Splash’s usage of its finance system, Acumatica with Non-Profit Plus

· Adaptive leadership to successfully manage through ambiguity and the rapid changes of a fast-paced, global environment

· Inspirational team building with the ability to motivate others to produce quality results and hold standards high

· Innovative approaches to business planning and management and sound understanding of best global business practices

· Strong strategic and operational leadership with the ability to unite other parts of the organization and external resources around a unified vision in order to effectively execute on Splash’s strategy

· Effective prioritization, clear accountability, and the ability to make decisions within tight timeframes across multiple high priority projects

· Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Experience / Background

· Minimum of 10 years of experience

· Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business (or equivalent experience); MBA is preferred; CPA is an asset

· Global financial management experience is critical; experience in an INGO is preferred

· Collaboration with Leadership and Board members, and other key internal and external stakeholder groups in a global, high growth organization

· Advanced analytical proficiency with Excel; knowledge of Tableau or other analytics software is an asset

LOCATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS 

Location is flexible. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this position will be performed fully remotely until further notice, with potential for limited working days in the Seattle office if desired.  

Salary Range: $125,000 - $135,000
