About the Position

Explore Schools is seeking passionate and dedicated educators to teach Core Knowledge Language Arts to K-2 classrooms. This role will focus on creating and delivering the literacy curriculum. Ideal candidates are incredibly reflective practitioners, always willing to go above and beyond to meet the needs of their students, and are strong early literacy instructors. The most successful teachers in our network love challenges, collaboration, and above all else, educating the whole child. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement the Core Knowledge Language Arts – Listening and Learning curriculum and lesson plans daily in Kindergarten through 2nd grade
  • Provide a range of instructional, management, and assessment strategies to meet the different needs of students
  • Submit lesson plans by the Thursday prior to instruction
  • Attend and actively participate in all meetings including PLCs, grade level meetings, and PD sessions
  • Collaborate with colleagues across content areas and grade levels
  • Participate in creating, revising, administering, and grading assessments
  • Keep accurate and organized records of student information
  • Provide tutoring to small student groups as required
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences as needed, as well as on-going parent communication
  • Support planning for and attend Curriculum Nights and Back to School Night
  • Ensure the safety of students at all times
  • When absent, ensures all substitute plans are clear and thorough
  • Assist with non-instructional supervision of students, such as arrival/dismissal, hallway monitoring, substitute teaching, lunch and playground duty, or supervision of extracurricular activities
  • Operate professionally, in accordance with our Operating Values and Staff Handbook 


  • Extensive teaching experience in K-4, strongly preferred
  • New York State Teaching Certification, strongly preferred
  • Master’s Degree in Education, strongly preferred
  • Deep understanding of inquiry and project-based approaches to instruction
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity in education
  • Experience teaching reading in early literacy environments
  • Can internalize and execute on content presented in the curriculum effectively
  • Can develop approaches to instruction that are engaging
  • Experience differentiating instruction and curricular content to respond to student needs
  • Commitment to working in underserved communities
