The Guest Services and Store Associate is responsible for providing excellent customer service to all guests of the National Nordic Museum and ensuring a welcoming experience. The position supports weekday, weekend, and occasional evening visitor services areas including Admissions, Gallery Monitoring and the Museum Store. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Represent the National Nordic Museum to the public and all stakeholders in a positive and professional manner.
  • Answer phone, direct phone inquiries to the appropriate department.
  • Serve as receptionist and greeter for guests arriving for meetings or internal appointments.
  • Open/close the museum, including the Museum Store, Admissions, and gallery spaces.
  • Greet visitors and provide them with information.
  • Sell and process all admission sales—online ticket redemption and “walk-up” transactions—including donations, memberships, etc.
  • Maintain coat room operations and cleanliness.
  • Monitor front-of-house areas to ensure safety of all Museum visitors; communicate issues promptly. Communicate with the Guest Services Manager regarding visitor feedback and incidents at the Museum.
  • Monitor temporary and permanent galleries to ensure safety of Museum visitors and collections on display. Reporting any issues promptly to supervisor. Visually inspecting gallery capacities and visitor actions while physically walking through spaces and utilizing camera system.
  • Open/close POS and Museum Store and reconcile daily tills; ensure accurate deposits to Finance Department.
  • Handle POS transactions, cash and credit card, accurately.
  • Work with Retail and Purchasing Manager to maintain products; receive, price, and stock merchandise.
  • Participate in annual Museum Store inventory process.
  • Provide supervision and support to Front of House volunteers.
  • Maintain current knowledge of building emergency, safety, and security procedures and protocols.

  • Excellent communication, effective listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders (staff, volunteers, vendors, customers, etc.).
  • Must be able to quickly and accurately assess priorities.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented, with excellent administrative skills.
  • Adaptable to changing business situations and environments.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.

Requirements

  • Position requires the ability to function on one’s feet for 80% of the day.
  • Position requires the ability to walk frequently, stand for extended periods, climb, push, lift (up to 30lbs), stoop, or carry of equipment and materials.
  • Position requires visual acuity and manual dexterity.
  • Proficient in PC platform, Microsoft Office; Word, Outlook, Excel, Publisher.
  • 1-year relevant experience
  • Flexible schedule, including weekend and evening work.
  • Valid driver’s license

The rate of pay for this position is $16.69 hourly. This is a part-time, 20 hour per week position, with a Friday–Sunday schedule.
