Family Violence Law Center (FVLC) helps diverse communities in Alameda County heal from domestic violence and sexual assault, advocating for justice and healthy relationships. We provide survivor-centered legal and crisis intervention services, offer prevention education for youth and other community members, and engage in policy work to create systemic change. 

OVERVIEW:  FVLC’s administrative staff conducts critical business functions to ensure that FVLC operations run smoothly, and that staff has the information, equipment, and resources needed to efficiently and effectively work toward our mission. A successful Finance Assistant is a very flexible detail-oriented person who can stay productive when the demands of work are pulling in many different directions at once. The ideal candidate is numbers-orientated and also has strong communication skills. The Finance Assistant will be managed by the Finance Director. This is an entry level position; candidates are not expected to have extensive financial systems knowledge.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Reconcile all bank accounts monthly.
  • Post all income and expenses to QB. 
  • Maintain paper files.
  • Mail/distribute checks.
  • Administer gift card processing and tracking. Work with staff to process and distribute grant based funds to clients.
  • Support the preparation of financial reports for grants and contracts and work in close collaboration with the Finance Director to ensure timely submittal of all required fiscal reporting.
  • Collect staff timesheets, reconcile PTO to staff calendar, communicate with staff on vacation balances. Run payroll and distribute payroll checks. Enter and pay 403 distributions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • College degree OR at least 2 years financial and/or administrative experience.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Criminal background check (provided upon hire).

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong understanding of financial functions.
  • Understanding of nonprofit accounting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, QuickBooks.
  • Valid California driver’s license with an insured vehicle.

CLASSIFICATION: Hourly, 0.60 FTE. Starting Salary Range $20.25 - $21.50

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment includes settings of the court room, community places, and office environments. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
