DEVELOPMENT & COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR 

Mandela Partners (MP) is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with local residents, family farmers, and community-based businesses to improve health, create wealth, and build assets through food enterprises in under-resourced communities. Our approach is based on a systems model that addresses issues of economic disinvestment, food insecurity, and health inequity, building on local assets to cultivate thriving communities.

Key Areas of Responsibility

The Development & Communications Coordinator is a newly created position. This individual will work closely with the Director of Fund Development & Innovation in coordinating activities to further Mandela Partners’ fundraising and communications strategy that aligns with the organization’s 2019-2021 Fund Development Plan. The Development & Communications Coordinator will be expected to be reliable, responsive to email, friendly, personable, and have experience working with people of color and different socioeconomic backgrounds.

The Development & Communications Coordinator is a self-motivated individual with strong writing and project management skills. The right candidate will be responsible for researching new funding opportunities, developing grant proposals, coordinating donor campaigns and cultivating donor stewardship, and supporting Mandela Partners' external communications. 

Development

  • Work with the Director of Fund Development & Innovation to research and identify new philanthropic organizations that align with Mandela Partners’ organizational strategy and programs
  • Assist with writing and developing new grant proposals and applications 
  • Conduct research and access relevant data sources to include in proposals and grant requests, as needed
  • Support the planning and execution of digital fundraising campaigns
  • Coordinate individual donor relations, including record updating, donor acknowledgement, and gift recognition on a rolling basis
  • Support the executive leadership team and staff in tracking and completing reports for current grants

Communications

  • Support the development of external materials, including program and community profiles, impact reports, videos, and other resources with the goal of reaching a broad set of partners, individual supporters, and funders
  • Coordinate digital communications and mailers to donors, including drafting content, compiling pieces, and tracking donor engagement
  • Assist with program and content updates to the organization’s website, as needed
  • Organize and develop content for monthly newsletters 
  • Work with Mandela Partners’ staff to create and deliver content through the organization’s social media channels
  • Update contacts in the organization’s CRM donor management platform

Event Planning and Engagement 

  • Assist with executing fundraising events in collaboration with Mandela Partners’ staff and the executive leadership team
  • Help plan webinars with staff and community partners to expand the organization’s regional and national visibility 
  • Track relevant conference and event opportunities that align with Mandela Partners’ work, and develop abstracts and/or proposals on behalf of the organization to participate 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • 2-4 years’ related experience in fundraising and development, and/or communications
  • Exceptional attention to detail and management skills, with strong relationship building skills
  • Ability to research and analyze data
  • Experience with online platforms and social media technology
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel and Google Drive (Google Docs, Google Sheets)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong capacity to connect with staff, community partners, and funders, and to interact comfortably with a broad range of people and backgrounds 
  • Video editing and/or graphic design skills are a plus
  • Bilingual a plus

Benefits

This is a full-time exempt position, with an annual salary range between $50,000 - $55,000. Mandela Partners’ offers health, dental, and vision benefits, in addition to a 401K program once eligible.
