Under the direction of the Associate Director for Cross-Sector Collaboration, in collaboration with other members of the business engagement team, the Program Coordinator, Cross-Sector Strategies is responsible for supporting the planning and execution of strategies and tactics that further Healthier Generation’s goals to create healthier environments for children and families, with a particular focus on creating systems that promote health equity. As a member of the business sector engagement team, the Program Coordinator will play an integral role in supporting the organization’s engagement with industry, non-profit, government, academic, and community-based organizations around voluntary business sector action, and the development of key business sector solutions, to increase access, availability, and prevalence of healthier food and beverages.


  • Support the business engagement team in the planning, coordination, and execution of strategies and tactics
  • Develop timelines and track progress towards milestones
  • Provide ideas and contribute to the development of goals and strategies
  • Conduct and synthesize background research on issues, recommendations, and organizations related to the work
  • Keep abreast of current evidence, initiatives, policies, and best practices related to business sector engagement and cross-sector collaboration, and communicate that information to other program staff
  • Support the business sector engagement team in identifying, researching, and cultivating relationships with potential new partners and supporters of Healthier Generation
  • Produce a variety of documents, briefings, and reports
  • Develop and continuously refine program summaries and communications materials
  • Assist in drafting presentations, external communications, and talking points
  • Plan and execute logistics for meetings and events
  • Capture notes and organize follow up to conference calls and meetings
  • Develop and/or support internal communications structures
  • Schedule internal and external meetings, as needed
  • Organize and maintain program files and virtual planning tools and resources
  • Assist in the writing and editing of reports and proposals to partners and funders
  • Communicate progress and results through formal and informal internal reporting procedures
  • Support external relations and maintain exceptional relationships with partners and collaborators
  • Represent Healthier Generation at conferences, meetings, and events, if/as appropriate
  • Collaborate with teammates and other Healthier Generation initiatives and departments to plan and implement cross-sector strategies and tactics
  • Contribute to the goals of other Alliance partnerships, programs, initiatives and departments
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Understanding of childhood obesity prevention, health equity, and related health and wellness issues
  • Highly organized, detail orientated and able to facilitate and coordinate several projects simultaneously
  • Ability to research and review a variety of information sources, including scientific literature, publicly available data sources, policy, and media
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as thrive within a cross-functional, innovative virtual team environment
  • Ability to assess priorities, make sound decisions in a changing environment, and anticipate future needs
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and strong and creative relationship-building skills with multiple stakeholders


  • Ability to travel by car and plane up to 30% of the time


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Master’s degree in business, nutrition, public health, education strongly preferred
  • At least 1 or more years of related experience required
  • Knowledge of nutrition, food systems, health promotion, and/or private sector business practices
